Spring Snow Storm Drops a Foot in Northeast

(CBS/AP)  Thousands of electric customers are without power across northern Vermont, roads are snow covered and some school children are enjoying a snow day after a late season storm dropped more than a foot of snow on some areas.

The National Weather Service says parts of New York's Adirondack Mountains and northern Vermont received more than 13 inches of snow by Wednesday morning.

Some schools are closed in northern Vermont and New Hampshire.

The snow began falling Tuesday morning. It's expected to continue through Wednesday morning.

Albany, N.Y., weather service meteorologist Kevin Lipton says such snowfall is uncommon this time of year. But he says he remembers a significant snowfall around mid-May in 2002.

Vermont utilities say about 15,000 customers are without power.
