Andy Rooney: Make Time Last Longer

By
CBSNews
(CBS)  We're doing a lot of complicated things in the world these days and we're doing them too fast. Something's got to be done about the passage of time. It's got to be slowed down. The days, the weeks, the months and the years go by too fast. Our lives go by too fast.

We're always hurrying time along by looking forward to things tomorrow instead of enjoying today.

Last weekend I heard a television weatherman say that summer was right around the corner. Well, summer is not around the corner. Summer starts on June 21. The corner is still 71 days away. I mean what's the rush?

Planning is bad for the passage of time. Planning anything a month in advance makes that month pass quicker.

In March I was looking forward to the beginning of April because I like April but I was so busy looking forward to April that I forgot to enjoy March which isn't bad, but first thing I knew, March had passed and I'd hardly noticed it.

The days that drag are the days when we have nothing coming up in the future. We could use some of those days because they're what we need more of to make time last longer - days that drag.

So, slow down, don't plan, savor every minute.

Dear Mr. Rooney,

I would just like to comment on your remarks re. memorial day.

As usual your comments were both wise, and insightful. You mentioned that it would be nice if we could create a new religion, one that doesn't go to war. Well there is such a religion, and it's members have been thrown into concentration camps during both World Wars, many being cruelly persecuted and executed. These Christians, Jehovah's Witnesses continue to take this stand, due to their love of God and neighbor. During the genocide in Rwanda, one tribe sheltered the other at the risk of their own lives. So you see Mr. Rooney there is a religion that has taken this courageous stand, and you can rest assured there will never be a victim of war at the hands of one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Their steadfastness in this re, is well documented in the Holocaust museum.

Best regards,
M.P.

Andy!, Time lasts just as long as it is supposed to, Your problem is that you aren't paying enough attention to the time you are using. (stay awake more and doze less) See what happened when you stopped to read this! "Tempus Fugited"

My thoughts exactly Andy! 30 days a month isn't a lot of time! We only get 12 of those each year. It seems to go by faster each year!

One reason that the days seem to go faster is as we age, we possibly don't see much NEW anymore! Excepting technology, how many times do we stop to say, "WOW! Thanks something I'd never seen before!"? It's familiar and therefore, unremarkable in our daily timeline.
