Tim Tebow Helps Couple Get Engaged

By
CBSNews
(CBS)  Former Heisman Trophy-winning football quarterback Tim Tebow isn't just into passing footballs. These days he's also into rings.

Tebow, who formerly played for the University of Florida, helped one couple at an autograph and picture-taking event get engaged.

Ian Lis, an alumni of the University of Florida, wanted to propose to Sarah Springer, his girlfriend of nine years, in an unlikely way. And then finally, he thought of asking Tebow for a little help.

Lis said Tebow welcomed the opportunity to help the couple "with open arms."

Tebow handed the ring to Lis at the event, so he could offer it to Springer as he got down on one knee.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can lash out with such hatred at someone they don't even know just because that person is not afraid to voice their strong Christian beliefs. I know some Christians are radical and share their beliefs in an intolerant & hateful way but I have never heard nor seen any reports of Tim behaving in this manner.

I find it terribly ironic that one of these comments implies Tim is gay and the other attacks him because he opposes homosexuality because he is a Christian.

With all the horrible examples in the public eye, whether it be in the athletic realm or Hollywood, from drug addicts and alcholics to rapists and murderers, you would think the public would welcome a wholesome role model such as Tim with open arms. Finally someone your children can look up to; yet, instead, he will be condemned for his beliefs and, God forbid, anytime he does anything wrong he will be shredded by everyone waiting to pounce. And he will make mistakes because no man who walked this earth, besides Jesus, ever was or will be perfect.

I feel certain Tim knows that in Matthew 5:10-13, the Bible says, "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

So comments like these only confirm he's doing something right.
