Survey: One In Four Too Tired to Have Sex
(CBS)
We already know we're sleep deprived. We fall asleep at the wheel and nod off at work, but now it turns out our love lives are taking a hit as well, reports Derek McGinty of CBS station WUSA.
A National Sleep Foundation survey says nearly 25 percent of respondents who live with a partner report often being too tired to have sex with that person.
The survey was based on a random sampling of 1007 adults ages 25 to 60. It was designed to measure sleep habits among ethnic groups, but responses on tiredness and sex were the same across the board.
The findings were no shock to Dr. Helene Emsellem, Medical Director at the Center for Sleep and Wake Disorders, in Chevy Chase, Md.
"In order to be intimate with someone, you have to be well rested, have good energy and be in a good mood, and sleep determines all of these things," she said.
She adds that we all need 7-9 hours of sleep per night and while we get by with less, that's what we're doing, just getting by.
