L.A. Teachers Suspended for Honoring O.J.

Three Los Angeles school teachers have been suspended for giving children pictures of O.J. Simpson, Dennis Rodman and RuPaul to carry in a Black History Month parade.

Los Angeles school district spokeswoman Gayle Pollard-Terry said Wednesday the teachers were removed from their classrooms at Wadsworth Elementary School. She says the teachers, who are white, could have made a more appropriate choice, such as Oprah Winfrey.

She says the school held the parade Friday, with children from other classes carrying photos of black heroes such as Nelson Mandela, Harriet Tubman and President Barack Obama.

The three teachers have been placed on administrative leave until an investigation is complete.

These teachers were racist and should not be teaching young children shaping the way they think. This is how racism is passed on from generation to generation and the families of these children proably had no idea that this had been going on and for how long. This is why education reform is so vital in this country. Sad pathetic people!

Although I can't imagine a legitimate excuse for these teachers doing this, I'll withhold just a tiny bit of judgement in case it was simply an unfortunate mistake or oversight of some kind.

If, however, it is what it appears to be--contempt for the black history month parade and an attempt to belittle and sabotage it--it is racism, pure and simple, and the teachers need to be fired. It is unreasonable to expect minority children to be taught by overt racists.

Dennis Rodman was the greatest defensive player to ever play the game, what did he do so bad?

As for RuPaul, I never saw him, but I understand he is a cross-dressing entertainer, Joan of Arc was a cross-dresser, Shakespeare wrote of, and used them, so what has RuPaul, other than having the courage for public cross dressing, done to merit honor?

OJ was a history-making running back, who was exonerated in his criminal trial (where evidence matters), of the murder of his wife, and the son of Ron Goldman He was later found liable in a civil trial, where evidence does not matter.

Now if it can be assumed that the teachers have negative opinions of these three people, and therefore tried to use them as insult to those celebrating a different heritage, they only prove themselves less educated than their students, afflicted with the mental illness ASPD, and lacking any class, civility, and have yet to accomplish 1/100th of those they denigrate.

*** is Rodman on the list CBS? I would pull this AP story until the Rodman name is fixed. I know he had some sex issues but so did President Clinton.

Anyway...this is not a reason to fire a teacher...yeah ok...stupid stupid mistake and a total lack of common sense but firing or admin leave is WAYYYY OVERBOARD! Freedom of speech has to come to their defense a little...I mean ball them out...but put them on leave for a picture of Rodman is just insane!

Booker T . Washington was a positive influence who wanted all people who were slaves to work hard, and make themselve essential to a society by their talents. He was a great man, and more should be written about him.
