(AP)  One of Bernard Madoff's daughters-in-law says she and her children shouldn't have to bear the burden of his name.

Stephanie Madoff filed court papers in Manhattan on Wednesday asking to change her last name to Morgan. She made the same request for her two children.

She's married to the jailed financier's son, Mark. She says her family has gotten threats, and she wants to drop the Madoff name to avoid "additional humiliation" and harassment. Her lawyer declined to comment.

Mark Madoff says in court papers he doesn't object.

Bernard Madoff is serving a 150-year prison sentence after admitting he cheated investors out of billions of dollars through an investment Ponzi scheme. His lawyer didn't immediately return a call Wednesday.

So when the Madoff name was associated with wealth and prestige it was good enough for her. But now that is associated with fraud and disgrace she wants nothing to do with it. As long as she is associated with her husband, who is not changing his name, and his ill-gotten money she will always get threats and harassment. There are many people with the fine last name of Madoff who are not guilty by association.

Disgraced Financier's Daughter-in-Law Asks Court to Change Her Name, Her Children's Names to Avoid "Additional Humiliation"

Maybe she should wait till she divorces his son............after he's convicted of fraud and conspiracy like his dad. They were all in it..................

Guilt by association. I'm sure this family reaped the benefits of the Senior Madoff crook. Shake them down as well.
