Toyota Dealers to U.S.: No Fair!

Toyota dealers are complaining that the besieged automaker is being treated unfairly by the U.S. government. Some say it is because the government has invested billions in two competitors, General Motors and Chrysler.

More than 150 Toyota dealers are in Washington to lobby lawmakers on behalf of Toyota, which has recalled more than 8 million vehicles due to safety concerns. At a Tuesday news conference, some complained the government is picking on Toyota, even though there have been dozens of recalls of other automakers' vehicles in the past year.

Paul Atkinson, a Houston-area Toyota dealer, got loud applause from other dealers at the event when he said, "How did we suddenly overnight become the villain? I don't get it."

not fair?? whats not fair is the american's paying for your defense,and you cowards cutting and running on us when we ask for help in world wide crisis. a wealthy nation like you that has benefitted from a unfair playing field and you not doing nothing to help the poor around teh world. what not fair is you having unfair tarrifs on our products and banning us autos from your cash for clunker program, taking tax breaks and paying little or no health care for employees. lying about rusted truck frames and poor sheetmetal quality. you clowns have never been fair about anything so E S A D !!

I was the only person in the showroom when the salesman looked me right in the eye and said that they were selling more Toyota's than ever. I would not trust a word anyone in that company says.

Toyota still in general has a lot of nice and solid cars. They however had a massive problem which was a lil more serious than the average recall. A problem it seems they tried to cover up to some degree. Ford got the daylights beat out of them for the Explorer tire debacle. Toyota is gonna have to take their lumps for this one. Only they can change how the future goes. They can completely own up and make it right. Then live up to the quality rep they once had and after years of proof they will regain the lost ground. There is no other way. As Detroit had to learn. Do not take customers for granted. They will drop you in a hot minute these days for these kind of games, especially when you try to hide the truth.

You're right, Ford, GM, and Chrysler have taken their share of the beatings which they deserved. All got a lot of bad PR over their problems. Is Toyota differen't then any of them? Do these dealers think we should just sweep this under the rug? So they can line their bank accounts selling unsafe vechicals.
