(CBS)  Elton John is facing backlash from Christian groups after stating in an interview that Jesus was gay.

In the interview, published in Parade magazine on Friday, John said that Jesus was "a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems."

"On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel," he continued. "Try being a gay woman in the Middle East -- you're as good as dead."

The comments have sparked outrage from Christian groups.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, issued a statement on the organization's Web site, saying, "Jesus was certainly compassionate, but to say He was 'super-intelligent' is to compare the Son of God to a successful game-show contestant."

"More seriously, to call Jesus a homosexual is to label Him a sexual deviant," the statement continued.

A spokesman for the Church of England told the BBC, "Sir Elton's reflection that Jesus calls us all to love and forgive is one shared by all Christians. But insights into aspects of the historic person of Jesus are perhaps best left to the academics."

The British rock star also talked about his relationship with civil partner David Furnish and his fear that "fame attracts lunatics."

"Princess Diana, Gianni Versace, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, all dead. Two of them shot outside their houses. None of this would have happened if they hadn't been famous...I never had a bodyguard, ever, until Gianni died. I don't like celebrity anymore."

First of all - how could anyone ever make such a horrible comment or statement about our lord - Jesus Chris and the son of God? If you want to know the truth, it is right in front of us all. The original design on this earth (in the mammal world) is that opposite sexes reproduce. The idea is to populate the planet. How, then, you can ask yourself do two of the same sex accomplish this when it is not possible? In fact, two of the same sex together is an anomoly an oddity of nature.

Another fact - One of the only creatures on this planet to self-replicate is a worm.

Now, let's talk about worms. It takes a worm of a human being to make such an awful comment about God and Christ. It seems that more and more in latter days, people are trying to make the bible into something that will make them feel better about themselves. Misery loves company - so the guilty try to drag others down with them to their depraved level of existence.

We humans are not supposed to feel good all the time and when we are made to examine our lives through word and wisdom so that we can improve ourselves - sometimes this is painful. Life is not happiness and glee all the time. This is why there are so many people masking their lives today with drugs - both legal and illegal.

It appears to me that when people are the most guilty they want others to think they are ok - they know they are wrong because inside all of us is the innate knowledge of God. When someone chooses to turn his back on God - Which Elton John has - well, it's too bad for him that he does so willingly. God has given us free will - and how much better our heavenly father must feel when someone actually chooses him and desires to do the right thing.

Here's the question of the day - why do we think we are so special? There have been millions of people alive before us and their will be millions alive after. Of all the people that have lived on this planet - people today are the most unfeeling and arrogant and least humble in that they think the world revolves around their thoughts.

I'm a Christian, and I've been a fan of Elton for over 35 years, If you're paying attention to what Elton said , He didn't claim Jesus was gay, he said He was "like a gay man." There are a lot of comments coming from believers, and non believers that are just pure hateful. Christianity teaches us to love even our enemies. Quit spewing hate in Jesus'name. And to those who continue to hate God, and revile Jesus, the day will come when you'll see Him face to face. I'll say a prayer for you!

I am SO SICK of the IGNORANCE on this earth. Everything I've read about this is a bunch of uneducated, prejudiced crap - ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE (which was created for this purpose).

I WILL say, however, that there is IN FACT a gospel which does indicate that Jesus AND his apostles were gay. Doesn't change his message any, but it was certainly REJECTED by the homophobic straights who assembled the Bible. Majority rules, and there's NO ROOM for ******* gothpelth.

Enjoy your lives, love your fellow man and get the BEAM out of your eye!

Jesus did not embrace sin. He did embrace the sinner(s) - most emphatically on the cross.

In process of emvracing sinners during His earthly ministry, he said "go, and sin no more."

In an effort to justify ourselves and our sin, we will stop at catch-phrases such as "love thy neighbor", "first cast the beam out of thine own eye", "judge not", etc., all the while ignoring sin as sin for the sake of the flesh. In doing so, I believe we ignore Jesus' death as payment for sin as well as His command to go and sin no more... which is impossible without Him!

When are people going to figure out that everything we have been taught about God has been lies?
God is mans' greatest invention.
It has always been used to control the minds of people for the sake of the few who either have power they don't want to share, or to gain power from other peoples they want to control and oversee.
Christianity was born this way, for those of you that read the bible, I suggest looking outside the so called holy book and read the history of the Byzantine empire, Constantine the Great ordered in the year 320 to put together a book that organized his empire. As a result, the Council of Nicaea (bishops of differing christian entities) debated and edited what was going to the the official position of their faith in the book. Many Christians did not accept the new book called "bible" and were then labeled, persecuted and destroyed by the byzantine Christians, who then hijacked Jesus's name for empire building. And war has been the christian tradition ever since....from the new world to the islands in the pacific and beyond has Christianity been spread.
Christianity, Islam, Mormonism (heretics by christian view), even Judaism are all guilty of genocide and atrocities that only demonstrate that God is a lie.
For example, anyone who has read the bible knows full well that Jesus would NEVER EVER promote, forced baptism, killing, empire building, and many things that have become a standard like Saints

LOL. I'm not going to sit here and ramble how it was wrong for him to say it. I find it simply humorous that Elton John, of all people, probably stoned out of his mind, said something so ridiculous. He wants to appeal to the gay crowd so I said whatever he could to make it happen. So whatever, move on with your life. Jesus loves you hateful people anyway, maybe.

Welcome to the unpardonable sin. Claiming something sacred and Holy to be of this of filth, man, Elton and whoever agrees with this have entered into a dark place where I fear there is little to no hope for redemption. I hope you rest well.

Let's see...

1.The guy runs around with 12 effeminate "Men of the Cloth"
2.Never marries
3.Never has a girl friend
4.Hangs out with a prostitute
5.Gave up carpentry, it calloused his hands
6.Was skinny (ascetic)
7.Wore a loin cloth
8.Liked washing mens feet
9.Was great at parties (when the booze ran out..."yo J, can you do yo thing to this water?")
10.Got ran out of a few towns in his teenage years
11.Didn't particularly subscribe to the Torah, he denied Leviticus and the Sabbath
12.Had great hair
13.liked Frankincense

There may not be direct evidence, but there sure is a lot of circumstantial evidence to support the claim. Remember the penalty for buttholery back then, death?

hmm food for thought.

btw, the thought, the visual of EJ doin' what he does, who he does, eeewwwwwwwwww
