Tiger's Statement a "Grand Opportunity"

Tiger Woods is facing what a celebrity expert consultant calls a "grand opportunity" as he starts trying to rebuild the image that was shattered when word of his repeated infidelity got out following the golf superstar's Thanksgiving night car accident.

Woods is slated to make a statement Friday to a small group of reporters he sees as friendly, among other people. It's expected Woods will apologize and perhaps shed light on his past - and maybe even his future.

"This is a grand opportunity for him to begin a process and it's going to be a very long walk up a steep, steep hill for him over a period of time," says celebrity image consultant Michael Levine of LCO, Levine Communications Office. "But this is an important first beginning step," he told "Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez.

Woods is coming under fire because he won't be taking questions at the session, but Levine says, "Of course he's not gonna take any questions. Nor should he. If I represented him, I wouldn't allow him to take questions either. The potentiality for salacious questions is just too great."

"This is a very important part of an overall and probably lengthy healing process -- he's taken after about 13 weeks of kind of a nuclear onslaught of media attention," Levine observes. "I think this is a very important beginning part, embryonic part of a long and probably difficult healing process (that) it will take him to restore some of his image."

Levine suggests Woods use humor -- self-deprecating humor -- because, he says, it would help cut through the tension.

Steve Sands, a Golf Channel reporter who'll be covering the Woods statement, says how Woods comports himself will be more important than what comes out of his mouth. "I don't know if all will be forgiven," he remarked to "Early Show" co-anchor Harry Smith. "It depends. … I think people are going to judge the way he looks, how contrite he sounds, more so than they will judge the words he actually speaks.

"I think it's very important for Tiger to show that he is sorry. Obviously, he's going to apologize to (his wife) Elin, his family, his fans, his sponsors, fellow tour pros, the PGA tour itself perhaps, and maybe shed some light on his upcoming schedule, but I think the way he looks and the way he sounds will be way more important I think than the words he actually speaks."

Sands speculates Woods will return to golf at the Masters in April. "It's a controlled situation," Sands says. "It's a place he's extremely comfortable. The people at Augusta National Golf Club can control the media, they can control the circus, if you will. He's won there four times. I think that the Masters would be the likely scenario."

Sands sees a return to Woods' winning ways: "I think that, when he does come back, I think he will win and I think he will win -- I don't know if it'll be at the same clip as he was previously, but I do think he'll win rather regularly."

The world will forgive Tiger when he goes back to golfing and throws yet another Green Jacket over his shoulders...

People just need to leave Tiger alone. His personal life has "nothing " to do with his profesion!! The media needs to find better things to talk about rather than dig into people's private/personal matters!!! Look at what it did to Princess Diana.....turned deadly because of this crap!

You are so right. What he did is private between the two of them, will the media relent? Absolutely not, they first kept asking how many sponsors will stick by him, over and over again, till guess what they started to fall like flies. Was that enough for the media? Absolutely not, every day a new girl pops up and discusses their affair, If they had a chance to work it out or not the media made it almost impossible for the both of them, He goes to rehab and no one said he is finished but the media hunted him down like a bunch of stalkers. Why does the media think we have a right to know about this. TABLOID SELLS that is all it is, and it has to stop, it is no one business but his wife and himself, these concubines should just go away no telling how much the media paid them to talk and destroy. I know Tiger destroyed himself by his actions but as I said it is none of our business.

I want to know why Ellin Woods was never investigated or prosecuted for hitting Tiger with a golf club! It did not even come up on Entertainment Tonight. The golddigging witch whacked one of the cuter athletes in the world and he required medical care, probably surgery, and the state did not take up the domestic violence case, which it can do when the victim is unwilling. She got away with assaulting Tiger! She could have killed him! All the blame got put on Tiger when he was probably just running so he would not be dead from her blows. This is probably not the first time she has abused him and most likely won't be the last. Yes, he committed adultery. He was wrong. But adultery does not deserve the death penalty. Aggravated Assault can get you 20 years in prison!!! I really don't like that he wimped out and did not get her for hitting him. It sends a message that it is ok for women to beat up men. I am really sick of this double standard. I want a perp walk and a mug shot!

Most of these adulterers you get the idea that they are very sorry---very sorry that they got caught! Jimmy Swaggart was the worst with all his crying and then he got caught again. People can forgive human failings. They have problems with hypcrisy. That is why all these "family values" politicians get in so much trouble when they get caught. It's the hypocrisy. Tiger will come out of this just like Kobe did. He will be poorer, but he will come out of it. But if he stays with Ellin,I am not sure his home life will ever be peaceful. She has him by the privates and her hand is deep in his pocket.

I think the way he phrases things, and what he doesn't say will be just as important as what he does say. I'm sure he has had a "spin doctor" write his speech for him.

There all the same. Like so many other , Tiger had a plan. After getting busted for cheating, lay low for awhile, let people forget, and then come back with a big interview. If you listen Tiger, thats Oprah calling, along with a long line of fresh sponsers. Same old story.

So the Hummer is going to try to convince everyone that it's really a Prius, and it's sorry it guzzled so much gas. Good luck. And oh, by the way, have you seen the Kings new clothes?

Nothing he says will change my mind...I also cannot understand why Elin would take him back after his numerous affairs, unless it's $$$$$.
