(CBS)  Carrie Prejean is exchanging pageant dresses for a wedding dress.

The former Miss California USA, 22, is engaged to St. Louis Rams quarterback Kyle Boller, 28, E! News confirmed on Sunday.

According to the report, the engagement happened on Saturday in Prejean's hometown of San Diego, Calif. The two began dating last July.

Prejean first received nationwide attention for an answer she gave during the 2009 Miss USA pageant, in which she stated her belief that marriage should be solely defined as a union between a man and a woman.

She has continued to make public appearances promoting her beliefs despite the revelation that she had breast implants, and the emergence of racy photos and an alleged sex tape.

A public battle with the producers of the Miss California USA pageant ended in her contract being terminated in June 2009, with K12 productions citing "continued breach of contract issues" as the reason for the termination.

Before Boller, Prejean was rumored to be dating Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. Neither would confirm the relationship.

If the stars align correctly, maybe their first child will be born gay. I would really be interested to know how they would handle this sort of "normalcy".

It depends on whether the child is a conservative gay or a liberal gay.

If it is a conservative gay, then there isn't any problem. Conservative parents usually aren't interested in what their kids do, sexually. The best option would be for the gay son to marry a lesbian wife for the purpose of making babies together, if they intend to have babies.

If it's a liberal baby, though, then it doesn't matter whether it's gay or not. Carrie won't like how it insists on dragging his bedroom behavior into places where it's not appropriate, and she won't go along with his attempts to redefine what a family is, so she'll get to play the victim among conservatives who are appalled at how the kid treats his poor mother, while the kid gets to play the victim among liberals who feel that it's outrageous - OUTRAGEOUS! - that the mother should refuse to believe what her son tells her to about what constitutes appropriate sexual and family behavior.

In other words, if the kid turns out liberal, they'll both be the center of attention and therefore probably very happy.

(The only loser would be the grandchild, who like every other child unfortunate to be manufactured for the pleasure of liberal gay couples, would be pressured not to "come out of the closet" about how the experience of being reduced to a commodity really feels, for instance not being allowed to speak openly about how being motherless affects him.)
