Author: I Know for Fact Tiger in Sex Rehab

(CBS)  Tiger Woods has been out of the public eye since his car crash in late November.

Numerous reports say he's being treated for sex addiction at Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services in Hattiesburg, Miss.

And now, an author tells "The Early Show" he has confirmation that Woods is at that facility.

Benoit Denizet-Lewis says he has a source at Pine Grove who provided that confirmation.

Also Wednesday, a report on the Web site RadarOnline.com claimed The National Enquirer has the first photos of Woods to have emerged from inside the Mississippi facility. Though the photos are not sharp and the man pictured appears to be wearing facial hair, an eyewitness confirmed Woods' identity to the Enquirer.

Denizet-Lewis, who wrote "America Anonymous: Eight Addicts in Search of a Life," spelled it out for co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez Wednesday, saying, "I have a source that confirmed that he is there. And unfortunately, I'm a bit of an expert about what goes on inside these places, because I've been to two treatment centers for my own recovery (from sex addiction). I wish I wasn't an expert on this topic, but I can speak about what goes on there and what Tiger is probably involved with in doing there."

Denizet-Lewis said he couldn't provide any more information about Woods' stay.

He told CBS News he spent three days doing research for his book at Pine Grove, adding that it's possible Woods will switch treatment centers.

"This is an ongoing process," Denizet-Lewis continued. "Once you go through treatment, you have a recovery plan. ... You have an abstinence plan.

"One misconception also -- the goal here is not lifelong abstinence. The goal for Tiger or anyone else is not to never have sex again. It's different from alcohol and drugs in that way, and gambling. The goal is to have a healthy approach to sex -- have sex in a way that's actually helpful and fun."

Dr. Reef Karim, who recently opened a sex addiction facility in Los Angeles called The Control Center, pointed out that sex addiction "is not about how often you have sex. It's about why you have sex.

"In my opinion, there are three things that might be going on here. Either he's a sports icon that got a lot of access, was able to get away with this kind of stuff, and he was just a player, like a lot of people are saying, or he's a sex addict, based on the numbers and possibly the underlying stuff that's going on, which we'll find out, if he's in treatment. And the third possibility is he's a love addict. And the reason I say that is that the typical sex addict might act out sexually on their underlying stuff, but then they move on, or the focus is just on the sex; it's not on the intimacy or connectedness, or the holding onto a relationship. If the reports are true that he's really holding onto all of these relationships with these women and trying to connect with them in an intimate way, then this may be love addiction as opposed to sex addiction. It's hard to know."

"Where never is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all day..." I haven't found it yet, but some of us, and maybe Tiger too, would really rather be able to find that sort of place.

"...The goal is to have a healthy approach to sex -- have sex in a way that's actually helpful and fun."
Alright, who decides just what is actually helpful and fun? The people involved in the sex act, or some therapist?
Every time I hear about this Rehab crap, I have to wonder just how stupid the Press really is.
Are we supposed to believe that someone is going to change years of bad behavior after getting a good talking to for a few months?
"It's okay guys/gals, I've graduated from rehab so you can quit publicly humiliating me in the Press now." Yeah, right.

Legend has it Wilt Chamberlain (basketball) had a lot of girlfriends too. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the guy can get from one end of the court to the other without getting pecked to pieces in the henhouse along the way...

I thought that one benefit of being in rehabilitation was anonymity so the person could get better without an audience. This article is distressing because someone paid for this information, someone WAS paid for this information, and "legitimate" media (not The National Enquirer) published it. I am in Tiger Woods' corner. I want him to get better, get back to his family and get back to golf. Articles like this won't help.

No, I think it's a public relations move.

What do you do, if you're Tiger Woods and your image just took a crashing nosedive?

You find some way to be repentant while at the same time making it clear that it's not your fault, that's what you do.

I'm sure that if he didn't want this leaked, it wouldn't be.

I hope he does well and can get past his sex addiction.

No one is perfect, and Tiger is better than most despite his faults.
