Jasper Schuringa ID'd as Flight 253 Hero
Jasper Schuringa, a director from Amsterdam, has been identified as the passenger who helped subdue an alleged terrorist as he on board Northwest Airlines flight 253.
A high-ranking law enforcement official told CBS News that the suspect, identified by multiple sources as 23-year-old Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab apparently used a syringe to inject a chemical into powder located near his groin, a technique not seen in previous attempted attacks.
Schuringa told CNN he heard a sound similar to a firecracker as the Detroit-bound flight was preparing to land. After seeing smoke, he noticed a burning object between Abdulmutallab's legs.
"I pulled the object from him and tried to extinguish the fire with my hands and threw it away," Schuringa told CNN. (Watch video below).
Schuringa said his hands were "pretty burned" after incident, but said the injuries were minor.
"I am fine. I am shaken up. I am happy to be here."
Schuringa said he stripped off the suspect's clothes to make sure he didn't have any more explosives on him and helped a crew member handcuff him.
He described Abdulmutallab as "was staring into nothing" following the thwarted attempt.

I can't believe America's politicians and news anchors that don't seem to have a backbone left in their bodies? Let me solve this air traffic security problem for all of America. There should be one rule for flying in America. Now, at first glance I know most Americans won't believe how simple this is because we have to listen to a bunch of pudknocker politicians and news people whine and gasp all day long on the radio, tv, etc, throw around 4,361 ideas about how we can fly safely.
Here it is people: If you want to fly in America, you will get either a body scan, a pat down or a good old fashioned dog sniff. That's it. If you don't like this rule: take the bus, the train, or a cruise. Got it!
PS, No I don't want to run for office.

was pretty weak and very stupid.
2)The initiator for PETN as main charge must have been a homemade one. These chemicals to improvise an exothermal initial reaction for the main explosive aren't always fool-proof.
If he had used a military initiator the security scanners might have revealed it, that is why he had to settle for second best.
3)What we can expect from this: They will probably prohibit all fluids and cremes, tooth-paste etc. to be carried in your hand-luggage. Suspicious pipettes and other items that can suck and release water will be banned as well. New snooping devices or sniffing dogs will be provided to step up security.
Good going Joe. That could not have been a pleasant task.
