Police: Dogs Fed on Owner's Body

The Nebraska Humane Society is seeking a new home for two small dogs that police say fed on their owner's body after he killed himself.

Police in the Omaha suburb of Papillion found the pugs named Harry and Sally late last week. Lt. Chris Whitted said Wednesday an autopsy showed the man was dead for two weeks of a self-inflicted gunshot before his body was found.

Humane Society spokesman Mark Langan says he can't verify the dogs had fed on the body, but he says it would be normal behavior for dogs left without food or water for two weeks.

Langan says the dogs appear to be well-adjusted and in excellent shape. He says they're unlikely to suffer from long-term psychological effects because "they don't have memories like people."

At least he didn't take his "family" with him as some suicidal maniacs do.

This man obviously knew that no one would find him soon. He must not have had any family or friends. So the fact that he killed himself, knowing that his poor dogs would probably starve to death, means that he was probably a disgusting excuse for a human being. No loss.

How is it obvious that he knew no one would find him soon? Maybe if he had known he wouldn't be found, he would have left food for the dogs.

Either way, he must have been suffering (from depression at the very least), so calling him a "disgusting excuse for a human being" and "no loss" seems bizarre (and hateful) to me.

That's a shame, those pugs are very cute. My mom has one and they are just as much of a puppy at 10 years old as they are at 2 months. Believe it or not, they are fairly good guard dogs too. :D
