(CBS/AP)  Attorneys for a Florida mother charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter are expected to ask a judge to stop prosecutors from seeking the death penalty.

A hearing in Casey Anthony's case is set to begin Friday morning in Orlando.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee, whose body was found six months after she went missing. She has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors have said they will ask for the death penalty if Anthony is convicted.

The toddler's remains were found last December in woods near the home where she lived with her mother and grandparents. Although the death was ruled a homicide, a specific cause was never determined.

Last month, Casey Anthony's defense team sought to , the meter reader who helped in the search for Caylee's body, in the girl's death.

Anthony's defense team admits it has no physical evidence to support its theory, CBS News correspondent Kelly Cobiella points out. And Kronk's lawyers say this is just a ploy to deflect blame from the real suspect - Casey Anthony.

Legal analyst Wendy Murphy told Cobiella, "(Caylee's) mother is the one who's charged with a crime here. So, you can point the finger at Mr. Kronk all day long ... it doesn't explain away the evidence against Casey Anthony."

There are no police reports on Kronk, or arrest reports, that have surfaced, Cobiella adds, to substantiate the claims against him. And investigators ruled Kronk out as a possible suspect early in the investigation.

Gimme a break! She took an innocent childs life, and her attorneys don't want her to be sentenced to death? An eye for an eye!

What a waste of taxpayers money on this hearing!

Wow. Think of the money the government wastes on trials. Why waste all that money on lawyers, a judge, a jury, and a courtroom to find and evaluate the evidence?

It would be so much easier to let a bunch of idiots with internet connections read what appears in the media for a while and simply let them decide whether the suspect is guilty or innocent. We could save even more money by providing this mob of morons with fifty feet of rope and simply having them lynch the suspect after they have been declared guilty.

I'm particularly impressed by those among you who are able to "logically deduce" what must have happened. That saves the police the trouble of looking for evidence.

life in jail is too good for her. she deserves the death penalty but doubt that will happen.

Is this the sense of morality you learned from your parents? No person "deserves" to be killed.

I never believed in the death penality, but Casey Anthony changed my mind.

This skank has a life not worth living. Two parents that aren't fit to be parents. A brother that parks car for a living. To quote Casey "They are all a huge Waste"
