Obama to Pledge $600M for Small Clinics

(AP)  President Barack Obama is spending almost $600 million to build community health centers and to make medical records easier to find.

The White House on Wednesday painted the spending - part of the $787 billion stimulus bill the president championed during his first days in office - as a way to add jobs to a struggling economy. Officials also linked it to the administration's broader push for an overhaul of the nation's health systems that remains unfinished in Congress.

"One of the first investments we made through the Recovery Act was in supporting our nation's community health centers, and today we build on that progress by funding new construction and improvement projects at more than 80 facilities nationwide," Vice President Joe Biden said in remarks prepared for delivery Wednesday. "This is what the Recovery Act is all about: providing immediate assistance for hard-hit families, improving our nation's infrastructure and creating new opportunities for stable, well-paid work."

The administration plans to give almost $509 million to repair, rebuild or replace federally designated community health centers. From coast to coast, the centers serve more than 17 million patients - about 40 percent of whom have no health insurance.

As much as $88 million more will go to health care facilities to transfer their medical records to electronic format and to upgrade technologies, according to figures provided ahead of a scheduled afternoon announcement.

Mr. Obama also asked Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to begin a three-year trial on how to improve care for Medicare patients at community health centers. The administration anticipates as many as 500 health centers would participate.

"Because community health centers already provide comprehensive health care to people who face the greatest barriers to accessing care, these demonstration projects have the potential to support and improve the care delivered not only to Medicare beneficiaries, but also to others who rely on community health centers for primary care," Sebelius said in prepared remarks.

Lawmakers included $2 billion to expand health services to low-income and uninsured Americans. Almost half has been spent already.

The White House released the announcement hours before Mr. Obama departed for Oslo, Norway, where he was scheduled to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

"Together, these three initiatives - funding for construction, technology and a medical home demonstration project - won't just save more money, and create more jobs, they'll give more people the peace of mind of knowing that health care will be there for them and their families when they need it," Mr. Obama said in prepared remarks. "Ultimately, that's what health reform is really about."

A Federally orchestrated medical records data bank for American's medical history. Wooffy, can there be anything more invasive then for the Fed to be in control of your life's history from prenatal to obit. "The Panel", as to be estblished by the health care bill, having access to all of your medical records, also available to "anyone with clearance" or who can hack the system or buy the data, is indeed scary. Well, grab a hold of your ankles boys and girls, I'll likely be gone before they can track me down but for you young'ns, if you think camera's in the shopping mall are invasive - well honey you ain't seen nothing yet.

Government controls always follow the government monies..

and btw...when will the President order the FRB to print up more of the worthless FRNotes???
our currency is worthless...our Treasury is empty....and the mobs will soon be demanding MORE food and MORE circuses..and MORE "rights".....

Soon the MOB will be clamoring "We need a STRONG not just amiable LEADER to GIVE us RIGHTS!"

we know what happened in 1792 in Paris....and Germany in 1932 when THAT happened(the Mob were "given") in history...

When you see stories about free clinics being set up in tents for people in need and the response, you realize the magnitude of the problem. There are more people than they can handle. No one should go without necessary health care in the richest country in the world, but that is what we have now.

That funding will support clinics for about a month. Drop in the bucket. And give me a break with the crappy medical software that forces doctor to sign in 60 or 70 times a day (because of autosignoffs, which are there to prevent prying eyes from getting to the patient info) and wastes everybody's time. When you go to ER these days all the healthcare workers are staring at computer screens instead of looking at the patient, trying to find out which box to use, or why the software isn't working. I wish government would stop trying to foist this mess on people who have much more important things to do than waste their time on expensive, poorly designed and inefficient software that does not interface well with any other software in the hospital. Oh, did I forgot to say that you have to have different signins and passwords for those different software packages, that they change every month or so, and that you cannot use the last 7 passwords? And if you deal with two or three hospitals, you have many sign ins and passwords, dongles and software packages. Just because the government is mediocre and has their workers waste time with bad software, doesn't mean healthcare should follow.

Our building is fine! Now if they could get a doctor in there for more than one day a week that would be nice!

More of "OUR" tax dollars being given away like they had an endless supply. Maybe "WE THE PEOPLE" should stop paying taxes until the Govt and Congress commit to balancing the budget and start paying down the defiect.

- FOXNews.com

President Obama's job approval rating has fallen to 47 percent in the latest Gallup poll, the lowest ever recorded for any president at this point in his term."

The facts:
"Obama is not the first president to drop below 50 percent in his first year in the White House. President Reagan's approval rating dipped to 49 percent in November 1981 and stayed ..."

47-49% is well within the 4% margin for error so FOX news lies once again.
"Fair and balanced"?
