Julian Lennon Returns to His Musical Roots

(CBS)  It's been almost 30 years since the death of John Lennon, who was shot and killed in New York City on Dec. 8, 1980.

And no matter how much time has passed, that date will remain etched in our minds.

But as heart-wrenching as his murder was, Lennon's spirit has lived on through his music and his offspring, including his first-born, Julian Lennon (John's son from his first marriage, to Cynthia Powell).
Now, after more than 10 years, the singer/songwriter is back to making music and putting his genes of a musical genius to work again.

Julian will perform on The Early Show on Dec. 15, the same day, his company, theRevolution (along with James Scott Cook) will release a four-track EP featuring the charity single "Lucy."

The song pays homage to Julian's childhood friend Lucy Vodden, who he drew a picture of and inspired the Beatles classic, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

The EP also will feature an acoustic version of "Lucy," Cook's new song, "Sober" and Julian's "Beautiful" from his new album, "Everything Changes," which will be released in the spring of 2010.

(Julian sure has a loyal fan base, doesn't he?)

Edgy, the whole world thinks John was a jerk for behaving the way he did to Cynthia and Julian, but you are an idiot if you think John didn't manage to play a positive role in Julian's life and his musical develpment.

Just listen to his incredible material. Julian manages to hop all over the globe, through musical trends and vocal styles and so many decades as if it all just falls into his lap.

It's so much fun to watch and listen to his development and (even tho I liked cute Paul better at the time) it's really neat to have the sense that, thru amazing Julian, John (whose life was cut much too short, much too early) is still with us.

Patiently awaiting your next release!

John had zero influence on Julian's music. John rarely ventured outside of a few people in his life, and basically abandoned his son and former wife except for money. To even associate his name with Julian is basically hilarious tabloid journalism.

I am so glad to see him return to his music, publicly. However, as far as I am concerned this article mentioned his father WAY too much and Julian not nearly enough. In his time out of the limelight, Julian has made many wonderful contributions to this planet and his fellow humans. It would have been nice to give him credit for WhaleDreamers. His production won several awards. It is time to recognize him for who he is, his very own person, not just the genetic remains of his father!

It's about time. I always thought Julian Lennon had true talent and was not just riding his father's coat tails.
