Palin Dines, Prays with Billy Graham

By
CBSNews
(AP)  Sarah Palin dined and prayed with the Rev. Billy Graham, who has counseled presidents and other politicians for decades.

Graham had never met Palin, who is scheduled to stop at Fort Bragg, a military base in eastern North Carolina, on Monday to promote her memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life."

The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee and members of her family flew into Asheville in the western part of the state, then went to Graham's mountaintop home in nearby Montreat for dinner.

Billy Graham said it was an honor having Palin in his home to join his family for dinner and that they took the opportunity to pray together.

"I, like many people, have been impressed with her strong commitment to her faith, to family and love of country," he said in a statement. "I appreciated hearing her speak of her own spiritual journey and her life in Alaska."

Palin was joined by her parents, Chuck and Sally Heath; aunt, Katie Johnson; daughter, Piper; and son, Trig.

Graham's son, Franklin, got to know Palin early this year in Alaska and he invited her to North Carolina. She accompanied him as Samaritan's Purse, an international relief agency he heads, delivered 44,000 pounds of groceries to Alaskan families who had been hit by a harsh winter in villages along the frozen Yukon River.

Samaritan's Purse, based in North Carolina, has an office in Alaska and Franklin Graham owns a cabin in the state. He also leads the Charlotte-based Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, which his father founded decades ago.

The 91-year-old Billy Graham said he shared his memories of preaching in Anchorage in 1984. Graham, who has suffered from ill health for some time, has been dubbed "America's pastor." He has counseled U.S. presidents from Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950s through George W. Bush and is known worldwide for his preaching and activism.

"Life in the spotlight is not easy and I pray that whatever lies ahead for this family that their faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, would remain strong and that God would put a hedge of protection around her and all those she holds dear," Billy Graham said.

I like Sarah Palin but even I am amazed how much CBS is putting stories up about her. They are fascinated with her too!

The difference for many of us between President Obama and Governor Palin is that President Obama has voted for infanticide and Governor Palin proves that she is Pro-Life by having her down syndrome child.
For Conservative Christians that's a big dividing line that will never go away.

Keep your filthy religion out of our politics!!

It's caused far too much damage already!

"It seems like the tone of the liberal invective against Palin is starting to shift from snide, derisive, low-class mocking toward anger, fear, and frustration (of course, there is and always be lots of the former). If so, perhaps there's good reason to. Palin's personal popularity ratings are twice those of Pelosi's, and within six points of Obama's."

What polls are you looking at, FOX Fiction News don't count. Her popularity is within the declining base of the Republican party. I am conservative independant and Sarah Palin scares me. She is popular with the extreme far right.

Nope, it is still solidly derisive and mocking, LOL!

It's hilarious, isn't it TF?

Hannity tells his lemmings that "everyone is afraid of Palin", and these morons soak that nonsense up like a sponge!!

Too funny!

The only people that are stupid enough to think that liberals are afraid of Palin, are moronic, brain dead Hannity watchers, that listen to Hannity tell them that liberals are afraid of Palin.

No one is afraid of this brain dead moron.

You know that she has $500,000 in legal bills, and of that 1/2 million, 3/4 of it came from ONE lawsuit where she sued herself.

I guess you can chalk that up to "fiscal responsibility", huh?

I disagree with statements saying she isn't qualified to be President. Mr. Obama was a Junior senator from Illinois when he became President-elect. He had no experience on the international stage, no experience in the military and the list goes on. I think that given enough experience and if the timing is just right, she could be President.

The difference is in the brains:

Obama is a smart, highly educated lawyer, that earned his law degree at Harvard, and for a time lectured constitutional law at the University of Chicago.

Palin shot a moose from a helicopter, after going to FIVE COLLEGES to get one degree in journalism.

You're trying to compare a steak dinner to a slice of stale bread.
