Over the Moon for "New Moon"

(CBS)  The long-awaited "Twilight" sequel "New Moon" opens this Friday nationwide.

"Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez said you'll likely see hordes of starry-eyed teens camped outside your local movie theater this Friday, just like it was at the Hollywood premiere of the movie Monday night.

"Early Show" national correspondent Hattie Kauffman attended the premiere, which featured the stars of the movie, Rob Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, on the red carpet.

Kauffman pointed out the movie has heart-throb Pattinson back as the Bella Swan's favorite vampire Edward.

Pattinson said at the premiere amid fans' screams, "When I'm 80, I'll be able to show these videos to my grandchildren, and say this is how surreal my life was when I was 23 years old."

"New Moon," the sequel to "Twilight," Kauffman said, couldn't premiere fast enough for fans who camped out for days.

One woman told CBS News, "I took a vacation day to be here."

These die-hard fans, Kauffman said, have a name for themselves: "twi-hards."

Taylor Lautner, who stars in "New Moon" as Jacob, said, "I got a call saying that fans are starting to camp out and it was five days in advance, and I was like, 'What?'"

Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, is torn between Pattinson's vampire and the werewolf played by Lautner in the film.

Stewart told CBS News, "I'll never be able to experience something like this again. This is really quite extraordinary."

As for ticket sales, Kauffman said they're already "over the moon." One Web site, Kauffman said, says advance sales for "New Moon" are the biggest in Hollywood history.
