Colo. Officials: No Inquiries On Gitmo Detainees

Colo. Officials Say US Gov Hasn't Called On Using Prisons For Gitmo Detainees

(AP)  DENVER (AP) - Colorado officials say they haven't been contacted by the federal government regarding housing detainees from Guantanamo Bay in the state.

Federal officials on Monday toured an empty prison in Illinois under consideration to house the detainees. Colorado's Supermax federal prison in Florence has also been mentioned as another possible site.

However, Gov. Bill Ritter's spokesman Evan Dreyer said Monday that federal officials haven't contacted Colorado officials about the matter.

State Rep. Buffie McFayden also said federal officials have not contacted Colorado about the matter.

Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd said a task force studying the issue hasn't made a final decision.
