Lone Person On Board Killed As Small Plane Crashes In Los Angeles Suburb

(AP)  SAN GABRIEL, Calif. (AP) - One person was killed when a small plane crashed in the heavily populated suburb of San Gabriel northeast of Los Angeles.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza crashed and caught fire shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, killing the only person on board.

The plane departed from Brackett Field in La Verne about 25 miles east of the crash site and was on a short flight to Van Nuys.

There are no reports of injuries to anyone on the ground and no immediate word of what caused the crash.

Investigators from the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are headed to the scene.
