Christmas Tree Stops At Phoenix On Arizona Tour

Christmas Tree Stops At Phoenix On Arizona Tour Before Going To Washington

(AP)  PHOENIX (AP) - An 85-foot blue spruce is about a third of the way through a 26-stop tour of Arizona before heading to Washington, D.C., to serve as the nation's Capitol Christmas Tree.

Gov. Jan Brewer participated in a ceremony on Thursday at the State Capitol and then put her signature among what appeared to be thousands of others on the plastic cover that protects the tree being transported on a huge tractor-trailer rig.

Brewer and members of the public were able to view the top of the tree through a doorway in the cover at the tail end of the trailer.

The 7,000-pound tree was harvested Saturday from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in eastern Arizona. The tree is the first from Arizona to go to the nation's Capitol.
