Inside Hasan's Apartment

Accused Fort Hood Shooter Apparently Bought Laser Guide for Handgun; But Hasan Lived Frugally Despite Good Salary

Officials have uncovered nothing to change their belief that Nidal Hasan acted alone in the Ft. Hood shootings. As David Martin reports, investigators have began tracking what Hasan did with his money.

Soldier opens fire at Texas military base

(CBS)  CBS News got an exclusive look inside the apartment of Maj. Nidal Malik Hassan, the man accused of killing 13 people and wounding more than 40 others in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas last week.

Among the items that found was the packaging from a laser guide attachment for a handgun. The product, called LaserMax, still had its $229.99 price tag on the packaging.

Also found at the apartment: Jordanian and Israeli coins, a psychiatry exam, a prayer mat, a rubber stamp of his name, at least three bottles of lotion, perscription drugs, clothing and a full dryer.

Investigators have begun tracking what Hasan did with his money. Although he was a major in the army medical corps with no family to support, he was living like a newly-enlisted private, CBS news national security correspondent David Martin reports.

According to Army pay charts, a major with Hasan's time in service would make $93,000 a year in base pay and allowances. As a psychiatrist he would have earned specialty pay on top of that. Yet he lived in a $350 a month apartment even though he received $1,100 month in housing allowance.

Judging by the things Hasan gave away shortly before his rampage, he had few worldly possessions. One possible explanation: members of a mosque where he worshipped said he was a very generous man who helped others pay their utility bills, Martin reports.

There was nothing wrong with him. He was just doing what a good, normal member of his faith would be motivated to do: Increasing the power of Islam by removing all obstacles to the rule of Islam over the entire planet. If that means killing your sons and daughters, well..too bad for you.

Concerning the beliefs of Islamic believers, "we cannot make window's into men's souls." as Queen Elizabeth I once said about condemnig Catholics in her kingdom. There are many members of the Islamic faith tradition in the USA. They live in accordance with our laws and many of our society's traditions/culture. Sad to say, there are some, who believe that by violence/killing they will spread their religious beliefs and they wrongly belive "do in the name of heaven, you can jusitify it in the end" But, we can't look into the souls of USA's Muslims, just their actions and deeds--their fruits as Christ once told his disciples.

Whether he was a part of a cell or a lone lune he was a terrorist. He had no claim to PTSD yet. There are real soldiers who have been in war, not just a "shrink" who hears about war.
Whether or not he went to strip clubs is irrelevant.

Yes you are correct. Sorry I posted your name in regards the strippers...meant to put stillunbanable. My bad. I agree totally with your comments.

funny, in the NYT today there was an article that hasan counseled soldiers who were DEPLOYING to iraq and afghanistan. The PTSD claim is totally BOGUS. This jihadi dirtball lived in Virginia and Texas. We paid for his college education, medical school, and internship ooohhh now that's stressful. Makes you just wanna "chop the heads off all the infidels and pour boiling oil down their necks" doesn't it. And why did the UK Telegraph have to break that quote as well as the story on the iman, mosque/9/11 terrorists?

A horrific and inhumane individual.

In humanities long hall of hate.

Which has always been surpassed by its far longer hall of love, and compassion.

A terrorist is a terrorist!

Why are people so afraid to confront Islam? At least 10% of the mosques in the US teach hate. Why are no hate crimes charged?

And 20% of Muslims in the US think that it is OK for jihad. Are you kidding me?

let's use these hate crime laws and arrest these crazy muslims.

Could you imagine what would happen if a white group of people were allowed to meet regularly and talk about the virtues of killing non-whites?

Just shows how out of touch the media is. They wouldn't even print the Mohammad cartoons because they were afraid of violence.

Christianity and Islam were very savage religions 500 years ago. Christianity became civilized by Islam is still barbaric.

"Among the items that found was the packaging from a laser guide attachment for a handgun"

WOW! You mean a soldier might have a laser sight for his gun? Big news!

"Also found at the apartment: Jordanian and Israeli coins, a psychiatry exam, a prayer mat, a rubber stamp of his name, at least three bottles of lotion, perscription drugs, clothing and a full dryer. "

WOW! To think he DARED bring home spare coins from his last trip abroad. And, doesn't a "prayer mat" tend to look an awful lot like a DOOR MAT?
Who would have thought that a psychiatrist might have a psychiatry exam and prescription drugs (oh I'm sorry, I spelled perscription correctly) in his home? And only a mad mad would dry his clothes after washing.

"Investigators have begun tracking what Hasan did with his money. Although he was a major in the army medical corps with no family to support, he was living like a newly-enlisted private, Martin reports. "

Wasn't it SeeBSnews that uncovered he would spend 5-6 hours per visit at the strip club buying lap dances? Maybe the detectives at SeeBSnews should read the BS at SeeBSnews so they can uncover where his money might have gone. I'm gonna guess...TO STRIPPERS?!

Well obviously they did not find anything from which to make a real story so we are stuck with this BS.

========================================================
I think the concern is that that the piece of equipment is a "full dryer", the kind terrorists use. Other people use half or quarter dryers.

There is no longer any excuse for mass immigration. Even if only 100 people a year were coming in, it would be difficult to effectively screen out terrorist supporters and sympathizers but with hundreds and thousands coming in every year, it's absolutely impossible. Anyone who still insists we need mass immigration should be viewed with extreme suspicion.

Do your representatives in congress know how you feel on this issue?

This terrorist is a terrorist because he committed a terroristic act on U.S. soil which is a crime under the Patriot Act in the name of his religion. That's pretty clear cut to any logical sane person but the media better known as the government media complex doesn't want to admit it. They would rather give him benefit of the doubt like good little liberals even though he killed 13 brave americans. In essence he is no better than the D.C sniper who just got juiced.

The article simply puts into context that this was a terrorist act. Hassan's mentor, Osama Bin Laden, also while wealthy, lived very frugally. So did the 911 highjackers. When someone makes $100,000 a year like Hassan did and drives a rusted out volkswagen and wears slippers and goes to mosques 7 days a week and buys nothing, then he had underlying motives. The article helps us to see what terrorists live like so maybe we can spot this and report it.

That is pretty funny. You described Bill Gates for many years, minus the Mosque attendance.

So, I guess we do not have to worry about Madof going on a shooting spree based on your generalizations.

@50BMS13

He spent his money on women. Ever been to a strip club. You know how much a lap dance costs? Try spending 6 hours in a club and only spending $5. SeeBSnews is trying to create an illusion where no real evidence exists. I agree zipadeedodah. Lame, if not pathetic.

Yes I know he went to a strip club but a buddy of mine told me he always sat in the corner ordering pine floats. That is a toothpick on water and apparently they were cheap. And he never tipped the harlots cause it was against his religion. So I still don't get your point?

curse 914:

Isn't it too bad that Americans care more about living beyond their means than fighting for their ideals? If Americans were as disciplined as Mr Hasan, the war on terror would have already been won.

Still though, you are right about using an ascetic lifestyle as a criteria for figuring out who is a terrorist. From now on, if I know of anyone who's credit card isn't maxed out, I'm turning them in to the FBI.
by tmsaurman November 11, 2009 8:41 PM EST
So he didn't spend every penny he earned, and he helped pay others utilities. Yep sounds like he has terrorist ties. Whatever happened to people just being plan bonkers and there not being a reason. The only reason anyone is saying terrorist is because of his middle eastern decent and name. It is shameful.

The things the CIA and FBI were seeing are signs of his terrorist leanings. Whether he was in league with other terrorists or acted alone, his act was encouraged by the extremists he identified with.
by jwesel1 November 11, 2009 8:25 PM EST
Correct me if I am wrong but showing someone's phone, coins and water bottle doesn't make news. What's so special about these items that you don't expect to find them anywhere else.
