The 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair Poll

Nov. 1, 2009 Edition: Check Out The Results And Weigh In!

(CBS)  The future of America's healthcare system has arrived front and center in the national dialogue. As the politicians and the lobbyists debate the details of how billions of dollars will be divvied up between Insurance Companies and their clients (aka hard working Americans), the 60 Minutes/ Vanity Fair poll begins with two questions concerning the actual health of Americans.

  • Which of the following changes have you made as a result of concerns about the H1N1 virus?
What Do You Think?
 None, I'll take my chances
Wash hands and use so much sanitizer I should own stock in company
 No more kissing, hugging friends
 No more shaking hands

The first question asks what changes Americans are making as a result of concerns about the H1N1 virus. It appears the vast majority of people will do nothing different or simply wash their hands more often. A small minority said they would refrain from kissing or shaking hands. So guys, at the end of a date if you get a handshake instead of a kiss, she's not worried about getting the flu, it's still your breath.

As a loyal American, nothing would please me more than for Texas to seceed. Keep on executing innocent people, getting your teens pregnant, letting your cops rob motorists, and shooting petty criminals in the back. Just don't wave my flag while you do it.

Texas. It's like a whole other country (Mexico).

I will be moving to texas when I eturn from Kuwait. I have several acres just south of Van Horn, and for dam sure i intend to protect my space. I do hope Texas has the guts to become it's own country,I for one will back that as with so many others. With the person they call President the US is finished as a country. Barack Hussein Binladin, oops I mean Obama,he will be issuing prayer rugs to all liberals first.

Kaylee,

You want Texas to secede? What happens when the U.S. closes its military bases and NASA? Then pulls out the border patrol? No more emergency aid for hurricanes and floods, etc. You think there's enough oil to cover all that? Do you think Texas is the only place that sells oil?

The federal border patrol is totally hamstrung here. Our Texas Guard is much more ready and effective and our governor is ready to go with it. We are living on the border of a "major" killing field in Mexico and if the federal government won't protect us then we should be able to protect ourselves. "We" took better care and refuge of the New Orleans hurricane survivors than the federal government. Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Amarillo all filled up their cities helping refugees. No, Texas is not the only place that sells oil, but we would be free to sell to the highest bidder and support our economy. With Obama and the democrats in office I feel there will be no military bases left in 4 years as he has disdain for the military as was witnessed by his trip to Ft. Hood last week. NASA is getting severe federal budget cuts and has no real "mission" with the democrats in charge. Texas is a huge state with many thriving economies and now with torte reform doctors are moving to the state in droves due to decreased malpractice costs. Many california tech companies continue to move here due to low taxes and no state income tax. Austin is the tech center and houses don't stay on the market there. Texas also has a very rich history of "individualism" and I certainly want to keep that. It is an unusual place and certainly not for everyone, but I'll keep it the way it is.

Glad Texas is at the top to secede. As a Texan nothing would please me more than to see us have our own country since we are so different from the rest of the US. It would be funny to see where the rest of the country gets their refined oil and gas. Al Gore will be glad to take your money for you to buy your carbon footprints. It is in our constitution in Texas that we can secede at any time. Don't worry about the illegal immigration problem either, they can still come through Arizona and Harry Reid's Nevada and of course Nancy Pelosi's California. We are the "last frontier" and I hope we stay that way. I'm also glad Texas got the most votes as that means "hopefully" no one wants to move here. We're full up!!

I can't believe there would be a more assinine poll than what state should seceed from the union. How dumb is that? How about which magazine you'd like to see cease publication??? Starting with this one. !

Alaska should succeed. We are not America's park to be exploited and managed by Twittering dolts from afar. We should get Northwest Territories and the Yukon and made the Tundra Republic. The lesser 48 can just split New Jersey or adopt Puerto Rico so they can have there 50 states.

I think we should kick California out of the US (it's not like the governator is even from here anyway), and then take over Canada and make that a state. But we won't because then there will be a foreign tax on movies and gossip mags, and we'd all go broke because we can't live without Hollywood.

It makes no sense to legalize marijuana and keep prostitution illegal. You cannot sit around and cherry pick your vices. You either have the freedom to do what you want with your body or not.

what vice?????

fool, someone told you it was a vice and you believed it,

being a stock broker, thats a vice.

Good point pigsinlipstick. But if that were the only brainwashing over this issue, I would be happy. They have a majority of Americans believing consensual adult prostitution is "slavery".
by Rohanite November 2, 2009 12:53 PM EST
The only brainwashing going on is people thinking they're islands who can do anything they want "to their own bodies" without affecting anyone else. Things just don't work that way...we're all connected somehow.

Toll roads in and out go up immediately. All mail service stops. All businesses based in those states have US Government contracts pulled. The people in those states will tar and feather their politicians. More than likely republicans. This Great Nation will be better off without the republican party as it is today. Their ideology has been tried and rejected. They want to force it on us even if it tears this Great Nation apart. 18 more republican senate seats on the ballot in 2010. Lets send them all packing.

Both parties have been "in power" more than once in the past, and neither one has done it perfectly - don't fool yourself. Politically it helps to have something of a pendulum swinging back and forth - we can't keep everything from the past, but nor should we change everything at once either.

Idiotic poll. For all you know, everyone who voted for any of the "yes" options would have voted for ALL of them, but couldn't, in which case the "No" votes would be a minority, directly opposite your conclusion.

I guess that's what happens when liberal arts majors try to do something analytical, Sheesh...

Try just liberals. Notice the poll about Republican memoirs clearly has a "none" option, while the poll about legalizing prostitution, drugs, or suicide has no such option. To quote their own caption, "is that being hypocritical or is it simply ironic?" But hey, it's Vanity Fair.
