Spinning a Mean Hula Hoop

When Eleanor Roosevelt became First Lady in 1932, she became just as much of a public figure as FDR. Now, Michelle Obama is using her spotlight to bring awareness to causes important to her, but also having a little fun at the same time.

(CBS)  There was a time when Presidential wives were seen on occasion but almost never heard.

And that's too bad. Some of them had a lot to say.

But along came Eleanor Roosevelt, and she changed the job description - she was heard a lot, and created her own following.

Jackie Kennedy brought some glamour to the job, and Hillary Clinton - well, the Clintons used to talk about "two for the price of one" - and people are still talking about whether that was such a good idea.

But at a White House event for kids, Michelle Obama took it to another level, as she set records as the FIRST first lady to run barefoot across the White House lawn.

She also became the first to jump rope there (sort of).

But whatever her skills at jumping rope, she performed a mean hula hoop. And the kids loved it.

It was just a reminder to all us grownups that whatever our jobs, it never hurts every once in a while to kick off your shoes and just have a little fun.

It's nice to see kids in the White House again.
Strange that the last little boy living in the White House was JFK Jr.

Mr.Schieffer surprised me Sunday when he address issue of 1st Lady's dexterity around the White House with a "Smile" like it brought him joy.Hope its true because it definitely brought me joy and my Ancestors who built the place.Michelle, ancestors who were the Slaves who built the White House and most of Washington are truly happy to see it also. Some are probably buried under that lawn she was "Running Bare foot" on.The Hula Hoop shot her running looking like she was enjoying herself might bring some pain. The Obama Family will write a new chapter in the way things are done at White House and its Foundation will be respected and improved for the better.

LET'S BE HONEST, THERE'S A DIFFERENT KIND OF FAMILY IN THE WHITE HOUSE. I'D THINK I'D BE SAFE IN SAYING THAT, THE DEMOGRAPHICS IN AMERICA IS CHANGING; JUST LOOK AROUND.
