Clinton Defuses Conan's "Feud" with Mayor

Secretary of State Settles Facetious Feud Between "Tonight Show" Host and Newark Mayor Cory Booker

(AP)  Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has defused the facetious feud between “Tonight Show” host Conan O'Brien and Newark Mayor Cory Booker.

The nation's top diplomat chided O'Brien for bothering her Thursday, advising the two forty-somethings to chalk up the dispute to a head injury the comic suffered last month.

The feud began Sept. 23 when he joked that Booker's new health care program consisted of a bus ticket out of gritty Newark, New Jersey's largest city. Booker replied by banning O'Brien from Newark Liberty Airport.

Clinton told them to return to their core duties in her video message.

For Booker, she says that means “leading Newark toward a new era of growth and prosperity.”

She says that for Conan, it means “dancing around the stage and making lame jokes about my pantsuits.”

Was this really about the Newark kerfuffel between Conan and the Mayor of Newark or was this maybe more about the Former First Lady who's had to endure years of mockery from a rival talk show host relishing being able to stick it to her nemesis on the competing network now that he's gotten his comeuppance and she's not only survived but thrived and is now Secretary of State brokering peace between nations?

Oh sure the timing could just be a coincidence, but wouldn't you think it would be kind of tempting for somebody passive aggressive to want to kick somebody who's down after they've been taking potshots for a decade and a half? What better way than to help the competition get attention.

Who can for sure though.

Good going, Hillary! If Conan can't see the humor in your reply, he needs to leave the set.
