Dave Price Rolling Along on the Open Road

By
CBSNews
(CBS)  In our special series, "Dave Price: No Way Home," "Early Show" weather anchor and features reporter Dave Price is traveling across the country with just a backpack and what began as $50.

"The Early Show" caught up with Dave at the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival, in Albuquerque, N.M., Monday morning.

But how did he get there?

After receiving rides, money and jobs from several people from Santa Monica, Calif. to Las Vegas, Dave hitched a ride with the Brunet family to Meteor Crater, Ariz.

The Brunets, a couple who sold their home in Maine to buy an RV, gave Dave a place to stay for the night. But, that place happened to be their Jeep, which they hitch to their home on wheels. The Brunets gave Dave a sleeping bag, but woke up cold and groggy after spending the night in the vehicle.

The Brunet family dropped Dave off in Winslow, Ariz., where he walked through a truck stop and persuaded Oscar Pena to give him a ride in his semi-trailer truck to New Mexico.

Read the "No Way Home Producer Notebook" blog.

Pena dropped Dave off in Albuquerque. Dave then made his way to the balloon fest, where they put him to work doing manual labor.

It does not surprise me that Dave was helped by RVers on his cross-country trek. RVers are among the most friendly and helpful folks that travel America's roads.

Dave, I have an interesting travel proposition for you. The independent band Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers from Tempe, AZ just happens to be rolling their tour bus in to Iowa tomorrow, the 7th. They are in Appleton, WI tonight, then on to Des Moines, IA on the 7th, Omaha on the 8th, then Cedar Rapids on the 9th, then back to Madison, WI for Saturday the 10th. You can check out their web site at http://azpeacemakers.com/index.htm; from there you can link to their MySpace or Facebook pages to see what an incredible band they are and what a tremendous fan base following they have. I think it would be a fantastic adventure for you to hook up with the guys for a ride on the tour bus; you'd love them! Roger Clyne wrote and performed the theme song for Fox's King Of The Hill show. All considered, this would make for a very fun and interesting story for the morning show! They're on the road touring town to town for months on end, cross-country, from venue to venue. They just might be able to give you a tip or two for your travels!
Take care!

Hi Dave!!! I'm about half way on your trip between highlands ranch and Iowa. I'm just off the interstate in Nebraska. Would love to have you stop by my pottery studio. I've been a studio potter for 25 years, and am frantically trying to get ready for my big 25th annual open house. I could really use help mixing clay! Then of course you would need a hot shower and a hot meal to recover. Good luck on your journey, and let me know if I can help!!

Dave,
We live in northern Iowa. If you need a place to stay, food and a ride, give us a holler. We are grain farmers and could always use some good help.
