Polanski Agreed to $500,000 Settlement

(AP)  Film director Roman Polanski agreed to pay his sexual assault victim $500,000 to settle a lawsuit 15 years after he fled the United States, according to court documents provided to media outlets Friday.

The deal between Polanski and the victim, Samantha Geimer, was reached in October 1993. The terms of the settlement were confidential, but the amount was disclosed in court documents because of a two-year struggle to get Polanski to pay.

Court records do not indicate if Polanski, now 76, ever paid. The last court filing in August 1996 shows Polanski owed Geimer $604,416.22, including interest.

Polanski's attorney, David Finkle, said he couldn't remember details of the case and declined comment. A phone message left for Geimer's attorney, Lawrence Silver, wasn't immediately returned. Geimer and her family also have not returned calls this week seeking comment.

Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with Geimer, who was 13 years old in 1977. He fled in 1978 before he was sentenced and is being held in Switzerland after his arrest there last weekend on a fugitive warrant in the case.

Geimer, who long ago identified herself, sued Polanski in December 1988, alleging sexual assault, infliction of emotional distress and seduction.

Record said he agreed to pay. Did not say he did pay. Just put for one hour alone in a room with the father of the 13 yr old girl. No cameras, no recorders, no questions.

You can not have consensual sex with a 13 year old child (boy or girl).

Rape is Rape!

Regardless of what the victim is saying today, this man should endure the same sentence that Bubba received.

Polanski needs to go to jail for this. I don't think its a good idea for him to get off after 30 years on the run. If he raped the girl then it is irrelevant if she slep with her boyfriend. If you are forty years old sleeping with a 13-year old is not appropriate and illegal.

That fact that he has not honored the settlement that he was legally bound by indicates that he has no respect for the law or the plight of the young girl he raped.

I agree he is an excellent film director, but that should not get off the hook. It was a long period of time between John List's crimes and the time of his arrest, but that did not buy him freedom. John List spent the rest of his life in jail after he was caught and that where he deserved to be.

Roman Polanski should do a certain amount of jail time for his offense. If that had been a ordnary citizen you can bet he would be doing time

They should take all his wealth from him. And set him out on the street homeless.

voxpopulus...please educate yourself before you post on these blogs. Her boyfriend was not prosecuted because he also was underage. The fact that she had sexual experience does not make it o.k. to rape her any more than it would be okay for someone to rape your wife or mother due to their sexual experience. I do agree with you however that her mother shouldn't have let her go alone. She was a single mom with a boyfriend of her own. My guess is she was a bit negligent and that is why the daughter was allowed to even have a boyfriend at 13...way too young.

RAPING A CHILD IS A CRIME. POLANSKI IS A CRIMINAL AND SHOULD PAY THE MONEY AND GO TO JAIL.

Well there it is now we know that this woman was paid off to look the other way. It was never about the crime being a long time ago or him being a changed person or a good director in the end it was all about the money.

He said he'd pay in 1993? I'm sure he's good for it. Yeah, right. Now I say extradite his butt back here and make him pay up with interest. The rat.

Presumably you wouldn't send your daughter off with a Hollywood director for "photographs". Even at 13 she had been sexually active, and I still wonder why her then boyfriend was not prosecuted for statutory rape. No publicity in that perhaps?

Actually I hope he shares a cell with Charlie.
