"The Early Show" weather anchor and features reporter is trying to find his way back to New York City this week in our "Dave Price No Way Home" series.
He has just $50, a Blackberry device, his personal essentials and a laptop computer to complete the journey across the country.
Dave began his journey Friday at the Santa Monica pier in California. He has until Friday of next week to make it back.
Rodriguez reminded viewers they can help Dave as he travels across the country, but he should work for their generosity.
"Early Show" substitute co-anchor Chris Wragge also relayed a request from "The Early Show" staff for him not to come back early.
"Take your time, Dave," Wragge said. "This should be fun."
But Dave said his goal is to be back in New York as soon as possible.
The "Early Show" co-anchors arranged the delivery to Dave in Santa Monica of a breakfast of his favorite foods before he kicked off his trip.
Dave said, with his small $50 budget, he planned to take some of the food with him in his backpack.
Star Drew Barrymore also stopped by "The Early Show" to promote her new film, which opens Friday, called "Whip It," featuring roller derby action. She had a pair of skates put under the breakfast for Dave -- just in case his feet start to hurt from walking!. She also said she'd give him a free pass to see her film over the weekend.

Barrymore said, "Happy trails. ... Have a great journey."

- Dave, I love this segment each morning. It has been delightful to watch. My family and I did cross country, so it feels personal to me. We traveled from SC to California (with 4 days in Las Vegas) and back to SC throught I-70 and I-40 this summer.
I am commenting, because I hope it becomes a full preview from start to finish on video or a CBS presentation.
You are so funny too, and we all need a good laugh each morning, especially now with all the negative on the news. - Reply to this comment

- Hi Dave,
I live in Central Iowa and can also help you make it east. Just come do my job for a day...home school mom (9th grader and pre-schooler) and farm wife. I'll pay you what I get paid: room and board (fringe benefits: love and adoration of my kids and husband; well, you might not be able to win over my husband); plus a little extra: a ride east (Illinois, somewhere).
Let me know if you can make it to my area.

- Hi Dave,
Hope you are having fun on your trip. I was wondering if you would make it to Georgia, if so, we are in a very small southern town and would love to have you. We also have resources to get as for an TN., if needed!! But of course it wouldnt be free, you would have to work in the fields raking and baling pine straw for our company. Now that cant to be hard .... can it?! Have a safe but fun trip!! Good Luck!!

- I'm not worried about Dave. He is resilient and very resourceful. He has technology at his disposal and he has friends who are reading about his journey. Dave will be there, not to worry. Anyone that doesn't believe probably has insecurity problems they need to deal with, because Dave can and will do it.
Have fun Dave because you will remember this trip for a long time, as will those who will be helping you along the way to your victory party. CBS is giving him a party aren't they? - Reply to this comment
