Jon Gosselin Halts Taping of His Kids

(CBS/ AP)  TLC network has shut down filming of the children on "Jon & Kate Plus 8" after receiving a cease-and-desist order from their father, Jon Gosselin.

In a statement, the network said production would remain suspended "pending further conversations" between both Gosselins, who are parents of young twins and sextuplets. Filming not directly involving the kids continues, TLC said Thursday.

"It appears that Jon's priority is Jon and his interests," his estranged wife, Kate Gosselin, said in a statement on Thursday. "My priority remains our children and their well being."

The Insider Web site reported Thursday that Gosselin demanded through his lawyers that the TLC production crew vacate the property of the family home in Pennsylvania.

In its statement, TLC said it remained "deeply disappointed at his continued erratic behavior. He and the family were shooting as recently as last Friday, without incident. ..."

"Despite Jon Gosselin's repeated self-destructive and unprofessional actions, he remains under an exclusive contract with TLC," the network said.

On "The Early Show" Thursday, Lara Spencer, host of "The Insider," said that "Gosselin and his lawyer tell "The Insider' exclusively that Jon and Kate both own the property where the show is being shot. Jon has joint custody of the kids and is able to make decisions about their welfare. He deemed it was not in the best interest of the children's welfare to continue with production of the show."

She also reported that Gosselin was not told in advance and learned only from news reports of the producers' decision to focus the show on his wife and rename it "Kate Plus Eight."

The Gosselins filed for divorce in June, after weeks of reports of marital discord.

In her statement, Kate Gosselin said, "I'm saddened and confused by Jon's public media statements. Jon has never expressed any concerns to me about our children being involved in the show and, in fact, is on the record as saying he believes the show benefits our children and was taping on Friday with the kids."

On Monday, TLC announced that the weekly series would be renamed "Kate Plus Eight," with a reduced involvement by Jon Gosselin.

In her statement, Kate Gosselin said, "I do the show for my family because I believe it provides us opportunities we wouldn't otherwise have. Jon used to share that belief until as recently as the day the network announced the name change of the show and indicated that Jon would have a lesser role in the show."

Gosselin's lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, did not immediately return calls to The Associated Press.

Personally I find both Jon and Kate offensive. The time to halt filming of the show was when they began divorce proceedings in June. The two of them needed to square things up between them before resuming filming of the show.

For making approximately $75,000 per episode, where is all this money at? Why can Kate not pay bills? It looks to me as if they/she spent far too much money on all these trips to North Carolina, San Francisco, etc. It's nice to be able to take your family on vacation, but seriously, how many vacations do they really need in a 6 month time span? It certainly wasn't to get away from the paparazzi, since she was under their scrutiny no matter where they went to. It's not like she went to a deserted island where it was just the family.

I have thought for years that she was mean and abusive to Jon, it doesn't make it right for him to go and cheat on her, but I can certainly understand him wanting to break out a bit. She kept him under her thumb and on a pretty short leash for a long time.

When the show first came out, I thought it was sweet and endearing, watching the little ones learn to crawl, then walk, and watching Jon and Kate deal with all the work that came with it. Then little by little, Kate's nastiness came out and made it increasingly difficult to watch the show. It all got worse once they bought their little million dollar "mini mansion". For some reason things drastically changed at that time. The kids became whiny, Jon was almost non-existant, and Kate was always gone on her book tours, which don't even get me started on that! The books are nothing more than glorified picture books for kids.

Another way for her to make a buck. I think she was always a money hungry woman and I think Jon became that way once he started to realize all the toys he could buy for himself, along with hair plugs and teeth whitening. I've never seen one bit of money going towards things for the kids, other than the publicity garnered trips, and the tree houses. It would be one thing for them to have seperate bank accounts for each of the children with the money the children made taping the shows put into them, but to hear Jon and Kate talk, there's no money left, other than the measly $230,000 that Jon supposedly withdrew from their joint-account. Otherwise, Kate should be able to take some money from the kids accounts to pay the bills, since the house is the "kids home" in Jon's own words.

I'm not sure I understand fully where all the money could have gone to. At $75,000 per episode, there should be money put aside for the children's education, or more at this point, their therapy, money set aside for maintainence on the home, and more set aside for bills. So, Jon says he withdrew $175,000 from the joint account that had $230,000, but that was like his "paycheck", so he leaves the other 9 family members with $55,000? Somewhere in there the math does not add up, for either of the two supposed adults in this whole debacle.

Time for Jon and Kate to both grow up, realize their responsibilty lies with their children, not a TV show, and to take care of the kids first and foremost. I personally don't feel that the kids should be subjected to being filmed while their parents go through a very turbulent and public divorce. When Kate says the children cried and threw fits over the fact that they wouldn't be taping anymore, I find it hard to believe the kids understood what was going on. No, they would not be able to see any of the camera crew that yes they grew up with, but I don't believe they realize what the entire thing was. That their lives are being put on public display on all the tabloids and that their parents fighting is becoming a public nuisance. I feel badly for these children, they are actually in a worse situation than child stars usually are, their whole lives are being documented, they are not playing a part in a TV show, they ARE the show. Every little sniffle, melt down, etc, is on public display for all to see. How embarrassed will these children be when they grow up and know everyone saw them being bribed with M&M's to poop on the potty????

I agree with you 150%. I won't be at all shocked if what is going on isn't just for publicity matters. And, if it is then sham on Jon and Kate and TLC for doing this to these innocent kids.

These kids should all be school aged. I have yet for TLC to show these kids doing homework, school project, etc. I know the schools might not want to be a party to the media circus, but what exactly are these kids learning? I also don't see any type of outside family interaction, grandparents, cousins, etc. I don't maybe it's just me I'm very family orient.

Jon and Kate please end all this nonese and get back to raising your kids either together or apart. They need to responsible adults.

I can't believe that some of you are blaming Jon and seeing Kate as some sort of heroine in this awful matter. Jon has taken alot of crap from Kate swince the show started. Though he may not be an angel by cheating on his wife he still a good father. As for him getting job he had one and because of the demands of the show and him having to work to support his family (shich it didn't seem as though he minded in the being). Kate would complain that he was working to much. I think that both of them need to get jobs and start taking care of the family that they both areed to having. People (I myself included)haveslammed Octo Mom for he misdeeds Jon and Kate are just as bad. When they went into getting artifically inseminated no where in the cards did it include a reality show. So they both knew that having twins and then going back in and having sextuplets was going to be financial beneficial but they were willing to take that risk and raise those kids the best way they thought they knew how. Now look at how things have turned out this reality show is now becoming The a War of the Gosselins and the kids are the one who are suffering. Jon is absolutely right for putting a hold on the TLC show. This should have been done a long time ago as to protect their schildren from all this nonsese and disgrace. TLC should also be ashamed of them selves for allowing for this to continue on public TV. I think the show needs to wrap things up and that Jon and Kate should find other means to support their large family. Like taking the kids money and investing it for when they are ready for college. from the way things look it looks as though Kate spends more money then she save for those kids. Well see what happens when the kids turn 18 and their looking for their royalties.

When they started to have problems with each other ... they should have gotten some help...some therapy.
Now, for sure, each and every child will need and should have a good therapist. DON'T WAIT TOO LONG CAUSE IT'S THE CHILDREN WHO ARE GOING TO SUFFER THE MOST.
Take it from someone who knows!!

Why didn't they inform Jon of planned changes to the show, especially changing the name and lessening his involvement? No respect shown for Jon, I see Kate behind this move.

Does this scumbag ever tire of his sophmorish antics? I guess not... could it be Kate was a crab to him because he was always a load and immature? A leopard doesn't change his spots, so my guess is yes.

Have you people been watching any of the previous shows? Kate is getting her just reward. Even her own daughter said that all she did was sit around all day giving orders - she's the queen bee!
Looks like they both (Jon and Kate) may have to get back to reality - Kate as a nurse and Jon at his computer job.
By the way - my parents managed to raise eight kids without a television show, nannies, cooks and other assorted assistance.

Jon and Kate are BOTH 'jerks'. Jon did the right thing - a little late but better late than never! Let those kids have at least some sort of normalcy in their young lives without cameras in their faces. Jon and Kate could BOTH consider getting 'real' jobs - especially now that the kids are older and in school. They're BOTH selfish and only in this for the money! You can't blame EITHER one of them more than the other since they BOTH created this environment!

He created the problem by not facing responsibilities and he walked out and committed adultery. Remember, they were not divorced. He should be fired just based on a moral clause. Get rid of him even if you have to pay him off. What a jerk.
