Rival Networks Fire Back Over Fox News Ad

By
CBSNews
(AP)  Fox News Channel's competitors fired back Friday at the network over ads in three major newspapers claiming Fox alone covered last weekend's protest in Washington, D.C.

"How Did ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC and CNN Miss This Story?" was the headline on the full-page ads that ran Friday. The headline is superimposed over photos of the rally that drew tens of thousands of anti-tax demonstrators and Obama administration opponents.

Fox's taunt drew immediate reaction from the other networks, all of whom quickly offered up descriptions, transcripts of news reports and video proof of their rally coverage. Some denounced Fox for falsehoods.

CNN anchor Rick Sanchez put it even more bluntly in a heated, lengthy air-on retort that CNN, which competes directly with fellow cable channel Fox, showed repeatedly. Sanchez aired clips of CNN's coverage from last Saturday, including interviews with protesters and a wide shot of the massive rally that looked like one featured in the Fox ad - a shot Sanchez said was aired repeatedly by CNN.

"Let me address the Fox News Network now perhaps the most current way that I can, by quoting somebody who recently used a very pithy phrase, two words," Sanchez told viewers. "It's all I need: You lie."

Fox took out the ad in The Washington Post and in the Wall Street Journal and New York Post, two papers owned by Fox's parent company.

The network has taken a pugnacious approach before in its promotional efforts, but this latest move is unusually provocative even for Fox.

Fox defended its ads in an e-mailed statement from a marketing executive that called other networks on the carpet again for their coverage of the rally and events preceding it.

"Generally speaking, it's fair to say that from the tea party movement ... to Acorn ... to the march on 9/12, the networks either ignored the story, marginalized it or misrepresented the significance of it altogether," said Michael Tammero, vice president of marketing for Fox News.

ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider said the ad was "just false" and that ABC has "a real problem with the Washington Post accepting an ad like this."

In an e-mailed statement, the Post said it doesn't reject an ad based on its content or sponsor unless the ad is "illegal, false, advocates illegal actions, or is not in keeping with standards of taste."

When an ad is not contrary to those standards "we will not place limits on speech or content," the paper said, adding that Fox was "expressing its opinion" about its competitors.

(CBS)
CBS said it had "multiple crews" at the rally and made it the lead story on the "CBS Evening News." CBS Radio News offered hourly reports and CBSNews.com (left) had the story in its rotating lead throughout the day, the network said.

NBC declined comment but noted that NBC News had crews on the mall and the event led "NBC Nightly News" on Saturday and was covered on "Today" Sunday morning. MSNBC also covered the story with live reports throughout the day, the network said.

I'll admit I did see a tiny amount of coverage on MSNBC & CNN, but the Iran protests got more coverage than our own and that disturbs me! Is Iran more important than our own country? Michael Jackson got more coverage than that! I was checking all day long on CNN & MSNBC to see if they were covering it, and only a couple of times and a short segment was given to it. This was a major deal! I have never seen such little coverage of a huge protest on the mall in my life! And CNN showed a picture of a guy with a gun & tried to say this showed racism, yet a bigger look at this picture showed it was an AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN carrying the gun! So he's a racist???? That is exactly the kind of coverage the protest got by MSNBC & CNN-trying to make it look like a race issue. I also saw an interview with another African American woman who was a delegate for Obama at the Democratic National Convention and she was at the protest! But she's a racist!

Fox News Promotes Tea Bag Protest, then covers them exhaustively, then accuses the rest of the news networks for being comunists for not doing the same.

Talk about wagging the Dog.

How much time did Fox news spend interviewing members of Cindy Sheehan's protest group at the Bush Ranch?

....exactly.

She has been on fox recently. She doesn't like what Obama is doing. Guess why she isn't news anymore. One war protest is not fashionable now that Obama is running the war. Second MSNBC wouldn't carry things that are critical of the current president. Media centers have found that reporting from all sources have been more positive for Obama than either bush or clinton

You won't hear Faux admitting that in a recent Emmy ceremony, HBO and NBC beat them in awards for technical and journalistic achievements! In fact, Faux only ourscored CBS by 2 Emmy's for a total of 8.

It's funny how the Emmy awards don't reflect Faux's alledged soaring ratings. LMAO

Emmy's are a recognition from their fellow journalist. If they are the odd man out in their editorial views I am surprised they won any.

What these Dittoheads don't realize is that they're being duped by Murdoch, Beck, Limbaugh, and all the other High Papa Lowrams. Not only are they doing the dirty work of these millionaires, they're the ones making them rich. They're out there pushing the interests of Rupert Murdoch despite the fact that no working person has anything in common with that plutocrat. Wake up, people. You're being played for chumps! High Papa Lowram is laughing at you! And he's taking that all the way to the bank.

It seems Nbc is doing the same for General Electric that owns them and will financially benefit if the current plan of cap and trade passes. In fact the head of GE is an advsior to the president.

Thus NBC to garner the support of the president and get people to support his plans consistently publishes positive articles about him and in MSNBC it simply has a 24 hour pro obama network.

In the process NBC has lost all credibility as an unbiased source of news and MSNBC has sunk in ratings like a lead rock. this fortunately helps limit the damage MSNBC can do.

serious questionning is needed not soft ball questions that elicit talking point answers. Unfortunately this rarely happens. Oh for the days of Tim Russert. He was truly an unbiased individual that tried to get behind the talking points.

No it does'nt seem that way at all. MSNBC has a republican hosting it's morning show! MSNBC has nothing to do with cap and trade. And your over playing your hand there pal. While MSNBC may be biased for Obama, they don't hesitate to take on Obama either. Watch them regularly and you'll see that you are incorrect.

In your attempt to smear the ?right? news outlets, Greenfield?s segment only served to reinforce why we no longer watch the ?main stream? media for our news.

In Mr. Greenfield?s ?Journal? segment this morning, referencing the ?right? wing news media, he stated that Joe Wilson, the Congressman who shouted out at the president ?You Lie? is from Louisiana, when in fact he is from South Carolina. Your story only helped to solidify why the ?main stream media? no longer has credibility.

I have loved and watched ?Sunday Morning? for over thirty years for it?s stories about inspiration, Americana, interesting people, but in the past few years, your complete transition to left wing reporting, has slowly turned me off. You obviously think your demographics are all left wing liberals. If you continue with your biased stories, you will be correct. This story only helped to drive home the point for me, that in their frenzied attempt you show the right as nut jobs, your correspondent?s don?t even take the time to do their homework. Get back to the premise of this show, and stop the liberal rhetoric, or you have lost at least two long time viewers in my household, but sadly, I doubt you care.

The Fox Nuisance Channel! 'Fair Haired (Blonde Bimbos) and Mentally Imbalanced' 'False News....We report...WE decide for you'. When is the Republican Party leader, Lush Limpnuts going to get his own show on Fox Noise? Could they not get his Fat A$$ in the camera frame?

Hungry1968,
You must be going through some mid life crisis or just a complete fool! You think that Chris Wallace STOPPED being a reporter when he joined the cable news network that has more viewers then all the rest COMBINED. Who is better then Chris Wallace? I am sure that you have a shiver run up your leg when you see Oberman or Mathews. Obviously Obama is afraid of Wallace and will not go on his show tomorrow. He cant wait to see all the guys he has in the tank tomorrow morning. I am not a conservative or a liberal, but i want pollitions to be asked hard questions. Obama will probably be grilled about his wife's garden in the morning.

Your first and primary mistake, is believing that Fox actually reports the news. They report on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING with a spin to try and make ANYTHING related to Obama look bad. Anyone that works for Fox, isn't working for a legitimate news organization. They're working for an ad agency. And yes, they do have the most viewers, because there are people like you that are too stupid to fact check their BS, and believe everything they say.

Like Obama's birth certificate, flag pins, "pull the plug on grandma", trying to tie Obama to ACORN, etc, etc, etc.

The fact that YOU are gullible and naive, isn't MY problem.

By the way genius: it's spelled politicians. Not "pollitions".

Did you say you are a "moderate"?
Wow, you have no idea who you are! If you are a moderate, so is Carl Marx!

You are a fool and a liar! I was interested in this whole thing from the beginning to see if CBS, NBC and ABC covered the ACORN story in the front page close to the same time as Fox. If you think they did, then you are delusional.
