Friends Say Mistress Behind Murder-Suicide Suspected McNair was Having Second Affair

(AP)  Court and utility records show ex-NFL quarterback Steve McNair, who died in a murder-suicide with his mistress at a condo he was renting, also helped pay for a different Nashville apartment occupied by another woman.

Authorities said McNair was shot by 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi on July 4 before she shot herself. Friends said Kazemi suspected McNair, who was married, was having a second affair with another young woman.

A claim filed by Gianikas Property Management in Nashville probate court last week calls for McNair's estate to pay $1,750 in rent, late charges and property damages on the apartment.

McNair originally co-signed the lease for a cousin, Raymond White, in October. But records show that electric bills were charged to 26-year-old Adrianne Hobbs from Oct. 24 through Aug. 7.

Stephanie Burch-McMahan, who managed the apartments until earlier this year, told The Tennessean newspaper for Wednesday's editions that McNair would personally come to pay the $1,000 monthly rent.

It wasn't until a few months after he co-signed the lease that management "discovered there was no man living in the apartment, she said.

"If there had not been for (McNair's) celebrity status, we would have called and said, 'Who is this person living here?"' Burch-McMahan said. "We knew if we confronted him about it, it would create a lot of awkwardness, so we let it go."

Hobbs told a reporter in July that she didn't know McNair and had no comment on his death. White's phone has been shut off and he couldn't be reached for comment.

An attorney for McNair's wife said she has no information about the claim and couldn't comment.

McNair, who did not leave a signed will, left a large estate behind that's in probate in both Tennessee and Mississippi. He made at least $90 million in salary over his 13-year career with the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens, plus any marketing deals he had. He had both business dealings and real estate holdings that must be divided.

The McNairs were selling their 26-room Nashville home in the upscale Green Hills neighborhood valued at $3.2 million at the time of his death. He was also president of McNair Farms Inc. in Mississippi, described as a ranching and farming business.

He had other properties as well, including "The Ranch," the 647-acre farm and house near his boyhood home of Mount Olive in southern Mississippi.
