(CBS)  In these recessionary times, enticing so-called deals abound.

Just about anywhere you look, you see claims of "big discounts," "sales," freebies, etc.

But you need to distinguish them from raw deals masquerading as bargains. Many "steals" come with so many strings attached, they could wind up costing you plenty.

On "The Early Show" Tuesday, CBS MoneyWatch.com Editor at Large Jill Schlesinger discussed phony deals to steer clear of, and offered suggestions for better options.
