And on "The Early Show" Friday, three ice cream gurus shared the hottest ice cream crazes to cool you down.
Fortunato Nicotra, executive chef of the New York's Felidia restaurant, shared some surprising ice cream flavors he created. Ever wanted to try flavors like bacon-bourbon vanilla? Now you can. At Felidia, Nicotra serves up the ice cream with spicy beer cake. Nicotra's flavors also include a red beet flavored ice cream and a basil and honey flavor.
Nicotra said he came up with the idea of these flavors years ago while eating at Japanese restaurants, which feature green tea and red bean ice creams.
He told CBS News, "I always thought about how I could recreate them in an Italian way."
Another ice cream twist could be a parent's dream-come-true: no-melt ice cream. Dave Pistorino, of Cold Stone Creamery, explained the formula was discovered by accident when experimenters were making a new flavor of ice cream with Jell-O pudding.
Pistorino said the experimenter left the mix out by accident and discovered that rather than melting completely, the ice cream takes on a mousse-like texture.
The base of all no-melt ice creams is Cold Stone's sweet cream flavor, mixed in with your choice of Jell-O flavors: butterscotch, chocolate, banana and vanilla.
Pistorino said the no-melt ice cream has been a hit this summer in stores.
Ice cream cocktails are another take on the summer classic treat.
Somer Perez, a mixologist of Couture Cocktail Concepts, shared these three fast and easy cocktails you can make at home.
