Elizabeth Edwards Moves On
(CBS)
The wife of former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards is now making her own headlines. Elizabeth Edwards held the grand opening of her new furniture store in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday, called "Red Window."
CBS News correspondent Michelle Gielan said on "The Early Show" Monday, that despite the ongoing rumors about her husband's affair, Elizabeth is now taking steps toward a new chapter in her life.
Elizabeth told CBS News, "My mother had a charity store when I was growing up, where she got Japanese antiques and sold them."
However, Elizabeth's store celebration, Gielan said, comes amidst rumors that she isn't afraid to address.
In a recent interview on "Larry King Live," Elizabeth even discussed a paternity test that will confirm whether or not her husband is the father of former campaign staffer, Rielle Hunter's 18-month-old baby.
She told King, "My expectation is that at some point something happens, and I hope for the sake of this child that it happens in a quiet way."
John himself has not denied that he either has or will soon take a paternity test to determine whether he is the father of Hunter's baby.
The affair is also a factor as federal investigators focus on allegations that John misused campaign funds to cover up the affair, something he wasn't open to speaking about when he attended the opening of Elizabeth's store opening.
At the event, John told CBS News, "(I'm) doing the things I need to do with my family - helping Elizabeth and supporting what she's doing here."
And despite even more headlines claiming that John is helping his former mistress move closer to his family's waterfront home, the Edwards family, CBS News pointed out, appeared tighter than ever.
Elizabeth said, "We just have a family to run and now a business to run as well, and so we just keep our eye on that ball and ignore what supermarket tabloids have to say."
