Feds Charge Dozens in Mexico-U.S. Drug War

(CBS/ AP)  Federal prosecutors unveiled a dozen new indictments Thursday charging accused Mexican drug cartels members pumped vast quantities of drugs into major U.S. cities.

Ten accused cartel leaders and dozens of others are charged in indictments unsealed in Chicago and New York. Many of the suspects charged are already being hunted by U.S. and Mexican authorities. The new court documents depict a sprawling distribution network stretching back nearly two decades, based on investigations by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Investigators and Attorney General Eric Holder jointly announced the charges at the Justice Department in Washington.

"Breaking up these dangerous cartels and stemming the flow of drugs, weapons and cash across the Southwest border is a top priority for this Justice Department," Holder said.

Three suspects - Joaquin "el Chapo" Guzman-Loera, Ismael "el Mayo" Zambada-Garcia and Arburo Beltran-Leyva - are accused of being the past and present heads of the organized crime syndicate called the Sinaloa cartel, or the Federation.

The three allegedly oversaw the shipment of nearly 200 metric tons of cocaine and large amounts of heroin into the United States.

Eight suspects were arrested in Chicago and Atlanta earlier this week. Earlier this year, another 10 suspects, all accused customers or couriers of the ring, were charged in Chicago.

The indictments grew out of a street gang investigation in Chicago and drug-related killings in New York.

Criminalize Republican thinking....sorry, that's not thinking..how about 'brainwashing'. Republican Philosophy: "What did Rush (speaking of drug use) tell me to think today?", Heil Hannity, Bill O the Clown, Glenn (what a ****) Beck and the rest of my Reich Wing buddies think, that's what I'll think since I can't reason things for myself.
Thank God for Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow and MSNBC!

Liberals hate FOX because they tell the conservatives what they want to hear. MSNBC does the same thing, they just tell liberals what they want to hear.

You want to execute millions of Americans for nothing more than using a controlled substance? What about the millions who are addicted to LEGAL drugs?
Want to murder them too?

6591Hou,

Are you KIDDING me? There would be NO NEED for universal health care of ANY KIND if every single "entitlement program" recipient were required to pass a drug test before they received ANY AFDC, food-stamps, subsidized housing or medicaid. Not only would that crack down on drug use TREMENDOUSLY, but it would also prompt these generations of "career" welfare recipients to get off their rear-ends, get off DRUGS,get a job, PAY TAXES (which would, DUH, create MORE jobs) and boost the economy of our nation! I truly believe that the whole intent of entitlement programs is to turn everyone into obedient sheep, so the gov't can just herd us around to do as they please with us to satisfy their own ends. I was hoping that our President would immediately after his inauguration try to set an example for all these "victims of circumstance". Our president grew up not knowing his father, getting shuffled back and forth between his mother and grandparents, doing drugs during his young adult years, being a black man....ALL THE EXCUSES THAT "victims" use for not bettering themselves. He's the P-R-E-S-I-D-E-N-T!!! No more excuses for NOT WORKING so you can live off the taxpayers!

Does this also include legalizing all of the illegal aliens as well?

Like someone said, legalize it and reduce it to what it REALLY is, a health issue. Addiction is a disease. I have had treatment for this disease and have 12 years clean so I do know what I am talking about from experience. People will quit using when THEY want to for their own reasons. Not because someone tells them they HAVE to quit. I is quite complicated, most people do NOT understand it. Besides, do you drink a glass of wine with dinner? Do you drink coffee? Do you take aspirin? All three of these are drugs whether you choose to believe it or not.

The drugs were pumped into the cities because money was willingly pumped out... you can't win a 'war on drugs' if you have to fight both the suppliers and the users.

I wonder if the new universal health care will make sure that these folks stay healthy while they snort, smoke, and inject themselves into a stupor.
