And Cookie magazine Contributing Editor Chassie Post spotlighted some of the hottest looks as part of the "Early Show" series, "Back to School Early" on Tuesday.
She says finding the perfect outfit really is as big a deal as it seems to lots of youngsters. "Do you remember what a HUGE decision it was picking out that perfect back-to-school outfit?" she asks rhetorically. "I can still remember -- it's School Year's Eve, the night before the first day of school -- thinking what am I going to wear? What are my friends going to wear?! Am I going to be in style?!"
So, says Post, "We've got the hottest trends in back-to-school fashion to help make finding that perfect outfit a breeze!"

- I agree the models were too young to worry about being "stylish" at school, however, I loved the 'presidential' look. I thought the boy outfit was super cute, picture day maybe???

- I consider myself fashionforward and i also still pick my son's clothes...he is turnig 10 in a few weeks and sometimes i encourage him to try pick something that he likes...he likes what i pick for him and always asks for my opinion when i ecourage him pick something...propably because he gets a lot of positiv feedback on his outfits....he picked his new backback this year though :)! the clothes for the boys where terrible!! i mean it seemed kind of "costume" and way over the top...my son specially wondered who (and why) picked the yellow jeans??? in my opinion there where too many trends mixed together on each outfit, to much going on...

- I find this fashion story very disturbing!!!! I feel sorry for those girls under 10 or so, were dressed like hoochy mamas or a cross betweeen a clown and a tramp/lady of the evening!! I would never let my daughter leave the house looking like that, for that matter I wouldn't spend my hard earned $$$$ on that garbage. I had to plead with my daughter to get new clothes for this school year, because she felt that she didn't need them (granted she had lots of clothes), but she turned down the idea of "new" school clothes. She is one of the most respected kids in her school or maybe just the 5th grade. She is completely modest and doesn't care what the latest trend is. She saw your segment and begged me not to purchase any portion of those outfits, except maybe a hat or a scarf. She is secure enough in herself that she didn't need that line of clothes to define her.
Regarding the boys stuff, I agree the chains are gangland and skulls. In our school system the kids are not allowed to wear any suggestive items, like skulls, knives, chains and etc... They will get expelled. Its also a small town/country public school.
I know I can take it or leave it, but I just want to say that its the parents that determine fashion in elementary school not the kids. I am sorry for being so harsh and bragging on my daughter, but she is such a good kid who doesn't ask for anything. As parents we are doing the best we can for what little we have. - Reply to this comment
- My gosh, we're opening up a can of worms by letting kids this young get so into what they are wearing to school. The focus is supposed to be on education.
The outfit that Malachi was wearing was straight out of gangland. Chains are dangerous at school. A bandana with skulls on it? He might as well be "jumped in" after the first day of school. Allowing a child to dress this way is courting danger. - Reply to this comment
