Beef Blamed for 28 Sick in 3 W. States

(AP)  Health officials in three Western states said Friday at least 28 people have reported illnesses tied to recalled ground beef that may be tainted with salmonella.

On Thursday, Fresno-based Beef Packers Inc. recalled nearly 826,000 pounds of ground beef produced from June 5-23.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service says the beef was sent to retail distribution centers in Arizona, California, Colorado and Utah, with some sold at Safeway Inc. and Sam's Club.

Friday, the department confirmed that California, Colorado and Wyoming have reported illness linked to the recalled beef.

Colorado health officials said 21 people there have been sickened, and all are recovering. California officials said five people have reported feeling sick.

Wyoming health officials reported that two people have fallen ill.

Officials are investigating other reported illnesses in Arizona, Idaho, Illinois, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, South Dakota and Texas that may be linked to the same strain of salmonella, the USDA said.

Federal officials do not yet know if those cases are associated with the beef recalled Thursday.

Because the beef was repackaged under different retail names, USDA recommends consumers check with the store where they purchased the beef to determine whether what they bought has been recalled.

Salmonella can result in abdominal cramps, diarrhea and fever. Most people recover without treatment, but some require hospitalization. In rare cases the organism can get into the blood and produce more severe illnesses.

Raise what you eat and eat what you raise.
.
You can't eat beef from cows that were raised in belly-deep pools of urine and manure.. then processed in plants that hire illegals... without accepting a dab of feces on your steaks and burgers.
.
Next time your motoring across the heartland on Interstate 70 or 80 and you catch a whiff of ammonia laced with feces... pull over. You'll probably see a feedlot. Uuummm! Smell them steaks.

We will never have a perfect system of inspection just as every other country or system will not. Nevertheless, If you were not such a Hate America firster you would know that this happens far more freqently over seas.

Why do the conservatives and Republican hate America? Is it religion that blinds these hypocrites so and drives them to fascism? Sniveling, frightened, blind patriotic wackos. We must stop them in their tracks. Right now.

This is another example of how our government is currently incapable of the most basic of regulations and supervision of corporations in America today. Corporate America, or rather multinationals and the elites, have so much power and political control that the government is essentially "bought out" and incapable of effective oversight of anything. We see it in the banking/financial sector, the energy sector, the health care industry, the military industrial complex (even if the socialist government dollars go into it, they do go to multinational weapons industries), and the media. What else can you think of? The most modest of reforms are being railroaded. Let's see how long it takes for the entire country to be railroaded by multinationals with the assent of an inflexible ideology, and a Pentagon that seems to be in bed with multinational short-term profit interests over the short-term and longer-term well-being of our own country...
