(AP)  The Obama administration announced Thursday that DHL has agreed to pay the government $9.4 million to settle a dispute that the company made shipments to Iran, Sudan and Syria in violation of U.S. embargoes.

The Treasury Department alleged that the company, which is part of Deutsche Post DHL, based in Bonn, Germany, made more than 300 shipments from the United States to Iran and Sudan between 2002 and 2007 in violation of U.S. embargoes with those countries. The department also alleged that the company failed to keep records of certain shipments to Iran between 2002 and 2006.

The Commerce Department, meanwhile, alleged that the company, among other things, violated export restrictions in eight instances when it made shipments to Syria between June and September 2004.

U.S. provisions prohibit shipments of most goods to Iran, Sudan and Syria.

Bleh DHL sucks good riddance. I tried to send a piece of jewelry that costs 300 bucks to the philippines. After I nailed them they said I had to declare it at 250 bucks and they weren't going to ship it at their inflated prices anyway because they don't deal in FINE JEWELRY i.e. anything made of gold. They don't use their own couriers you have to deal with some guy in a car off the street. Fed ex is not quite as bad but it still costs 75 bucks and they use local couriers. UPS costs 50 bucks, you can send gold jewelry up to 500 bucks and they use their own couriers. Uh it doesnt take a genius to figure out who to go with because UPS is 25 bucks cheaper plus they use UPS couriers. USPS costs 35 bucks but I wouldnt use them because I sent some car parts USPS with insurance and it got stuck in customs where it never got released therefore I never got the insurance and was out 400 bucks. USPS prices are going sky high these days and their sevice center lines are getting long. I wonder how long they are going to stay in business. My mail still seems to get there on time though. Maybe they need to go to a mon-fri delivery and get some clerks out there rather than close service centers. I do know that would mean that 20% of the postal force would be fired but they wouldn't have to dissolve because of crappy service and high prices.
