Fed Has Few Fans, Poll Finds

(CBS)  The Federal Reserve probably won't be voted the "prom king" of government agencies any time soon, if a new Gallup poll is any indication.

According to a July 10-12 poll, the nation's central bank scored the lowest rating among nine government entities - with just 30 percent of those polled giving it an excellent or good rating and 22 percent saying it has performed poorly.

The new scores represent a significant drop from September 2003, when the 53 percent of respondents rated the Fed's performance as excellent or good, while just 5 percent found it to be poor. The Fed's role in the nation's financial crisis is likely the driving factor behind the erosion of public confidence.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, making news this year for its response containing the H1N1 outbreak, tops the list with 61 percent rating their performance as excellent or good. NASA, amid commemorations of the historic moon landing 40 years ago, followed closely with a 58 percent rating. The FBI scored 58 percent as well.

The Food and Drug Administration, which came under fire in the past year for its handling of a lethal salmonella outbreak, was second from the bottom, with just 38 percent of respondents giving them a positive rating.

The middle tier of agencies included the CIA, Department of Homeland Security, Environmental Protection Agency, and IRS, with respective excellent/good ratings of 47, 46, 42 and 40 percents.

The survey of 1,018 American adults was conducted over phone. It has a margin of sampling error of plus/minus 3 percent.

Bernanke - the same expert who only last year told Congress wonderful fairytales about housing, the markets, and the economy just as the bubble was beginning its implosion.

Apply the controls available, without inventing new ones, and refrain from creating a Nation dependent on its government (through politicized cronyism) for financial success. Prosperity has no address on that road.

Make changes at the top and change the structure over money?s controls.

Time to rid our government of ALL forms of fraud and abuse. The only way to do that is to get rid of all of these crooks, Democrat and Republican, and START OVER. We have that right under our Constitution and we need to use it NOW.

"The Fed" is just as corrupt as any wholesome gov't agency though.

This article incorrectly calls the Fed a governmental agency. The media always propagates this innaccuracy, intentionally, I believe. Folks need to be aware that the Fed is not a true govenmental agency; rather it is a "quasi government agency". The Fed is ran and owned by a collection of private banks. The governmental part of the Fed is just the tip of the iceberg. Ever wonder why the Fed was so eager to give trillions of our tax dollars to the banking system? My suspicion is that they gave *themselves* our money cover their losses and line their pockets. Yes, tell your congressional reps to vote to audit the Fed!

Yea, and fannie mae and freddie mac are also quasi government agencies and look at the mess they created. Both agencies are chock full of dems such as jamie gorelick (builder of bubba's walls) & raines who all made a big A bundle of cash.
As far as I'm concerned, as long as the likes of frank & dodd are anywhere in government I will not trust the government PERIOD!

Call your congresspeople and make sure they support Dr. Ron Paul's bill to AUDIT THE FEDERAL RESERVE!

We have a right to know how the federal reserve is spending trillions of our tax dollars.
