Pelosi: Health Care Bill Has Votes to Pass

(AP)  Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Democrats have the votes to pass health care legislation in the House, even though negotiations are under way to make changes in the bill to satisfy some of its critics.

The House's top Democrat declined to say when she will call for the vote on President Barack Obama's top domestic priority. She says she wants to see what the Senate's plans are.

The California Democrat made her comments at a news conference Wednesday. She spoke as conservatives and the White House seek changes to impose greater cost controls on health care. Other members of the rank and file seek additional changes.

This needs to be called the Health Insurance Company bailout bill. This has NOTHING to do with health CARE reform.

Doesn't anybody realize that the pre-existing condition coverage requirement is going to force everyone into government healthcare? This requirement is like telling the victim of an accident with an uninsured motorist that they have to pay for the uninsured's insurance retroactively or allowing someone who doesn't buy insurance and then has their house burn down to retroactively require those who did buy insurance to pay the cost of their irresponsibility. The system would be overwhelmed and nobody could afford private insurance which, by its nature assumes everyone has an equal chance of having a claim (it's a pool of risk that this provision polutes).

We just had an experience with the purest form of government health care already in existence...the VA. The closest VA hospital diagnosed a serious vascular problem in my husband. They referred him to another VA hospital where surgery would be done. The second hospital said, "No surgery. "Re-refer him when the problem is worse."

"The problem" is an aneurysm. "Worse" means it bursts. Survival rate is 10%.

This is where government-run health care is headed, people. Is this what you want?

Health care isn't a right.
Owning a home isn't a right.
Owning a car isn't a right.
Having a job isn't a right.
We all have to work for these things. Obama wants everyone to be dependent on him for everything. That is the socialist way. He has said that if you can't afford your home the governmetn will buy it and rent it to you. That terrifies me. He also wants all privately owned college loans to end and for the government to make the loans IF you are willing to devote 10 years to community service of government's choosing. That pretty much takes care of your life. Control, control, control, that is what Obama is about.

This health care bill will pass. I already have health care, and I am so happy that many in my community, who are uninsured, will have access to medical care. There a plenty of horses that will never drink the water they have been guided to enjoy. Neglect will be a hard habit to break for many. It will take 15-20 years before the new health equilibreum we desire is reached.

Passing this health care will be one more item off my bucket list.

There is already medical care for the "uninsured" but they don't apply for it. You are right, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

Can I borrow that bucket -- I need to puke.

why don't they have medical people on this committee and why don't they talk about the fraud, which is costing us money?
the american people aren't stupid, yet they aren't sharing any of the spcifics of it. The one part I do know is that people who have insurance can keep it unless they change jobs, then they can't get it. We also don't have enough doctors already. People who get free health care us ER's alot and that costs more the a dr.'s visit.

BINGO!! That's because it is bogus. They don't even know what they are talking about. Obama doesn't even know what is in the bill - he admitted it the other day - and he is pushing it as though he knows every line in it. Any bets on how many legislators haven't read the entire bill? Snd isn't the public supposed to have opportunity to read legislation before it is voted on, per Obama himself?

Yes, please make healthcare available for everyone. Healthcare is a human right. Everybody deserves it, no matter whether rich or poor.
I hope it includes dental and vision care as well.

This "health care" plan is the most un-American proposal I have ever heard! The Democrats are so eager and quick to change anything and everything that they are not even thinking about the severe consequences of this plan. And why should they . . . they all have amazing medical benefits and do not have a worry about being impacted. Obama says that he is tired of pharma companies and insurance companies telling people who they can and cannot go to for medical care, but, under this plan, HE IS DOING THE SAME THING!!! How can the government tell us who we can and cannot see for something so personal, important and vital as health care? This will only promote even more unemployment due to unfair comepetition and encourage a Socialist/Communistic run government who does not listen to the needs of it's people. Obama is so adamently against the wealthy, but yet we are good enough to be the ones he can tax for bailout money and money to fund this program??? We are the ones paying for all of his mistakes . . . literally!

Asking rich people to give up like 2% of their income to help fellow Americans? Are you crazy? Like rich folks are gonna do that! Forget it! This is America. These sick folks are a bunch of losers. Let'Em'Die. Look, the marines don't leave anyone behind. Who can live up to that standard? The average guy isn't gonna run into a burning building to save somebody's grandma. Don't expect rich people to get all heroic to save somebody they don't know. this isn't a movie and John Wayne's dead. Be the shark or be the bait. Poor sickos are the chum and the insurance companies are the sharks. Survival of the fittest. Dog eat dog. That's the American way.

Hope you don't mind if I borrow your comment, reveal5? It seems to fit in here r-e-a-l-l-y good! ;=)

all day no one has been able to answer this question

can soneone answer this question? If this does pass will there be enough doctors who will work for the govt run health care? In south florida most Dr. will not take medacade or medacare because it will not pay the bills. Is this new plan somthing different?

Maybe your problem, dwilson59, is that there is no such thing as "medacade" or "medacare."

Try "medicaid" and "medicare".....there...you should have no problem in locating a doctor who will treat you!

p.s. I used to live in South Florida, actually Boca Raton, and my son used to live just south of Miami before he accepted a job with the Federal Government in DC. Therefore, try using the correct spellings and you will have no difficulty in locating doctors to treat you.

pps. Are you aware that South Florida has one of the largest populations of elderly in the country? How about that? There are literally hundreds of thousands of elderly living in Palm Beach County, Broward County, and Miami-Dade County. None of my contacts there are reporting any problems locating doctors for their care!

Good luck!
