Bruckheimer Announces 4th "Pirates" Film

Producer Says Johnny Depp on Board for Another Swashbuckling Adventure

(CBS)  Producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced on "The Early Show" Tuesday, he's preparing for another "Pirates of the Caribbean" film, starring the legendary Capt. Jack.

Bruckheimer said Johnny Depp has signed on to reprise the role for a fourth time.

But this summer, Bruckheimer is bringing his first live-action animation and digital 3-D feature-length film to the big screen. And it’s not about pirates.

Bruckheimer, known for his hit TV shows and "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, has gone the animated animal route with his new film, "G-Force," about about highly-trained government-program guinea pigs that work in espionage. The guinea pigs learn that the entire fate of the world is in their paws -- and they have to do something about it.

Some stars whose voices are featured in the film are Sam Rockwell, Tracy Morgan, Penelope Cruz, Nicolas Cage, Jon Favreau and Steve Buscemi.

But why did Bruckheimer choose guinea pigs?

Their character. Bruckheimer said on "The Early Show", the characters are adorable, calling them "little James Bonds."

Bruckheimer said the movie is romantic, action-packed and funny.

But how is the 3-D?

Bruckheimer, whom "Early Show" co-anchor Harry Smith called "meticulous," said the 3-D element of the movie is "amazing."

Bruckheimer said the movie is using new 3-D technology that has more 3-D shots in it than any other movie made to-date.

The target audience, Bruckheimer said, is families.

"We want to make the kids laugh and smile," he said. "Hard economic times, so a lot of the parents are out of work, so let’s do something good for the kiddies, and that’s what 'G-Force' is."

But if the films do well, Bruckheimer may be doing some smiling, too. Smith remarked if these animated films take off, there’s a great box office return and DVD sales, as well.

But Bruckheimer's not just banking on guinea pigs. He has a variety of projects in the works: Bruckheimer told Smith he’s working on Disney’s "Sorcerer’s Apprentice," starring Nicolas Cage, that’s slated to come out next summer. He also mentioned "Prince of Persia," a movie scheduled for release next Memorial Day.

But does the producer ever stop?

Bruckheimer told Smith he’s having too good a time to do that.
