Emma Watson Talks About Changes in Her Character and Romantic Comedy Turn of Sixth Potter Film

(CBS)  She’s the Harry Potter "it" girl.

Emma Watson, who has played Hermione Granger since she was young, takes on a new role in the sixth Harry Potter film: romantic love interest.

The story of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," Watson said on "The Early Show" Tuesday, is more of a romantic comedy than any of the other Potter films have ever been.

"There’s just much more chemistry, much more interaction between all the students (at the Hogwarts school)," Watson said. "It was quite a different Hermione for me to play because usually she’s this very tough, very stern, you know she’s kind of like this ‘girl power’ (character). And in this one, she’s much more fragile, vulnerable. She kind of gets her heart broken a bit."

Watson, like Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Potter, said the film’s creators wanted teenagers to relate to the film’s plot.

As for the on-screen love, Watson said Ron is good for Hermione.

"Don’t they say opposites attract?" she said. "Hermione is very serious and she needs someone to make her a bit more relaxed and fun and he’s the opposite of her -- like yin and yang -- but a balance."

Watson told "Early Show" co-anchor Harry Smith the character of Hermione, which she fervently sought from the beginning, has met and exceeded her expectations.

"No one imagined the success that the films have achieved," she said, referring to the top earnings for the series. "...It’s been amazing."

Watson also addressed her recent advertising campaign for Burberry, saying that her friends told her they didn’t recognize her at first.

"It’s so flattering to be asked to do it," she said. "It’s fun to do something a bit different. I’ve really enjoyed kind of doing a bit of modeling."

Watson also told Smith about her plans to attend an American college this fall. But the school name is still a secret.

"I’m said to be attending four American universities at the moment, so everyone’s guessing."

Saw it, do not waste your money. This had to be the worst HP film they have made. It focused TOO much on the romance and didn't focus enough on the main plot. This is the same company that is in charge of the last 2 movies, I can only hope they do not botch them as badly as they did this one.
