(AP)  British commanders in Afghanistan defended their military operation against the Taliban in southern Helmand province despite the deaths of eight British soldiers in 24 hours.

The deaths have sparked renewed discussions about the purpose of the mission and whether the nation's military has lost its way in efforts to subdue the rugged land that has harbored Osama bin Laden.

But a British military spokesman in Afghanistan said that although they had suffered casualties, they were beating the Taliban and making ground.

"We are holding ground, so we can bring security to the Afghan people and give them some life that is free from the intimidation, misery and violence that the Taliban bring," Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson said.

Britain moved into Afghanistan with the United States shortly after the September 11, 2001, attacks as part of a coalition hoping to root out extremism and build a stable government able to upstage the Taliban.

Britain's 8,000 troops are fighting in southern Helmand province together with thousands of U.S. Marines in a major offensive.

It is intended to disrupt Taliban insurgents and cut their supply lines to Pakistan before elections planned for next month.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown sent a letter to a senior parliamentary committee on Saturday saying that Britain went into Afghanistan in 2001 to tackle the global terror threat. He says that remains the reason to fight on there.

Britain has lost eight soldiers in 24 hours - the highest number to die in a single day since the 1982 war in the Falkland Islands.

In the last 10 days, 15 British soldiers have been killed, one of the worst periods for Britain's troops here.

The deaths pushed Britain's overall toll in Afghanistan to 184, five more than the total British deaths in the Iraq war.

For those interested in knowing what actually happened on 9/11, see Dr Judy Wood's forensic examination of the evidence. Dr Wood is a former professor of mechanical engineering from Clemson University who received her PhD in materials engineering science from Virginia Tech.

Dr Wood's examination was submitted to NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) in the form of a Request For Correction and is also the basis of her Qui Tam case in NYC Federal Court. Dr Wood, represented by mainstream attorney Jerry Leaphart, is suing the sub-contractors hired by the government for the NIST investigation of the WTC claiming, at minimum, "willful blindness" in their contributions to the NIST Report. Dr Wood was already successful in getting NIST to confirm that they did not analyze the "collapses", even though they were mandated to do so by Congress.

Dr Wood's analysis shows, very clearly, that directed energy weapons (DEW) were a causal factor in the destruction of the World Trade Center. In Dr Wood's legal documents, she also notes that some of the defendants in her court case, such as Applied Research Associates (ARA) and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), are founding sponsors of the Directed Energy Professional Society.

Dr Wood has been in contact with the US military's Directed Energy Directorate, located at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, and they do not deny that DEWs destroyed the WTC. Instead they claim "phenomena that we cannot explain here". Their representative also finds ?Dr Wood's investigation interesting and worthy of further consideration?.

See Dr Wood's website for full information, including that of exotic weaponry, the Hutchison Effect, and Hurricane Erin which was mysteriously parked outside NYC on the morning of 9/11 and headed back out to sea afterwords:

Also, one must be aware of the propaganda that has spread through the "truth movement". See the following article and remember to keep an open mind:
9/11: Distinguishing The Propaganda From The Smoking Guns

Those interested in knowing the truth of things are encouraged to check the evidence for themselves instead of believing what they are told to believe.

Hey Brooklyn:

You're getting redundant, but it bears repeating that evil does not take a day off. When those that hate us want to kill us, then we will meet them on the battleground.

Now if we could only find a neutral site where the innocents are not caught in the shrapnel of war implements, that would be best. Maximize efforts and minimize loss is always hoped for, but unfortunately not achievable.

So if the United Nations can create a place where everyone can just have it, once and for all, then we can all go on living the way it was intended from the beginning. Until that day happens we will take it to them, and if the CIA does not choose to tell Congress or the Senate what they know; I can live with that. Because too many on the hill do not have the insight, knowledge and experience to know what to do with any more information than they already have.

For our friends from Great Britain, we are sorry for your loss and we are appreciative for your efforts and friendship. May we always continue to work hand in hand to eliminate evil within the landscape of this earth. Peace to all.

If you call 500 miles off shore "parked out side NYC" Then you have a 'possible' reference point. There is no such thing as Man moving hurricanes. They go where they will. Man can't even move a Tornado (which is a very small hurricane) so why the "CONSPIRACY THEORY".....

Thank you Great Britian for your support in rooting out evil in the world.

We grieve for your losses as much as we do our own in this war.

A US and world citizen.

May we see peace soon.

Agreed.

Thank you England for hunting down the terrorists, while the conservatives had us chasing folly in Iraq, that had NOTHING to do with America.

Thank you for keeping us safe, while our own military was being misdirected into Iraq, jeopardizing our safety.

No this one's easy. CBS (with the rest of the MSM) is still in their OBASMIC state--smoking their cigarettes and enjoying the ride. They will NOT report anything negative about the chosen one. Had 'W' still been in office this article would have been written entirely different. As it is now the generals are saying we still don't have enough troops (remember BO nixed that originally) and the rules of engagesment have changed such that our brave men can't even fight as required to win. WHY? Until this euphoric state of OBASM is abolished, the media will parrot the BO line and more of our brave men (and Brits) are in for a hell of a ride.
