Levi: Palin Quit To Cash In On Fame

Alaska Governor's Spokeswoman Says Bristol Palin's Ex "Honing His Acting Skills"

Alaska's youngest and first female governor tabbed to be McCain's running mate.

(AP)  A spokeswoman for Gov. Sarah Palin is scoffing at comments by Bristol Palin's former fiancee, who says he thinks Palin resigned to cash in on her fame.

"It is interesting to learn Levi is working on a piece of fiction while honing his acting skills," Palin family spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Levi Johnston, 19, whose wedding to Bristol Palin was called off earlier this year, said Thursday he lived with the Palin family from early December to the second week in January.

He claimed he heard the governor several times say how nice it would be to take advantage of the lucrative deals that were being offered, including a reality show and a book.

"She had talked about how nice it would be to take some of this money people had been offering us and you know just run with it, say 'forget everything else,"' he said.

He said he thinks book deals were really what appealed to Palin.

"I think the big deal was the book. That was millions of dollars," said Johnston, who has had a strained relationship with the family but now says things have improved.

Compensation details of Palin's book projects haven't been disclosed. The former Republican vice presidential candidate has said she is facing more than $500,000 in legal fees.

Johnston made his comments at a news conference Thursday at the office of his attorney, Rex Butler.

Johnston came forward, Butler said, because Alaskans want to know why Palin has decided to resign, effective the end of the month.

Johnston is pursuing his own book deal and movie deal while working as a carpenter.

Asked if he would vote for her if she ran for president, Johnston said: "I think she's a great lady, but after seeing what she did now, you know, leaving Alaska, I would have to say, 'no.' Obviously she's stressed out as governor. I mean moving up to the vice president or president is huge. I just don't think anymore that she's cut out for the job."

So if he is lazy and won't get a job what does that say about Sarah who had a good job that paid a lot of money and just up and quit it for no reason, and without having another job lined up that was better, to go to?

She has a reason, probably several of them! I think she finally got tired of the constant, relentless bashing that she and her family have been receiving from you democrats since the republican convention last fall. It finally got to her and wore her down. What people have been doing to her and her family would wear anyone down!

I also think she is preparing for either a run at the presidency or vice-presidency in 2012 and just hasn't announced it yet. She needs to prepare for it first by reading up on US foreign policy and gathering funds. I think in a year or two when she's ready and has enough money in her war chest she'll announce her candidacy. In the meantime she will spend time with her family and spend the next year traveling and promoting her book. I think by next fall she should be a millionaire several times over if her book sells as well as it is projected to sell. In the meantime, though, it has to be promoted, especially after it hits the bookstores next spring. That will take a considerable amount of her time and she is only one person. She can only do so many things at a time and she can't be in two places at once. I think she knows that too and that's probably another reason she resigned.

I think the main reason, though, is the constant bashing and the constant idiotic "jokes" from the late night so-called "comedians" and the stupid frivolous complaints that are constantly being filed against her. It all got to be more than she could stand both emotionally and financially and the job had to go.

She may also have personal reasons that she doesn't have to disclose to the public. She doesn't have to tell us everything! She has a right to keep some things private!

I had the perfect reply composed but couldn't get it posted. Something about sauce, geese and ganders.

You sit there and say such bad things about this guy, who wants to have a relationship with his child, and say nothing about how her daughter could've kept her legs shut. Typical women always make bad decissions then blame everyone else...

If he wants to have a relationship with his child he should get a job, any job even a minimum wage job would be better than nothing and would do until he can find a better one. He should also start sending Bristol regular weekly child support checks. Remaining without a job and not supporting his son and letting his big mouth to reporters is not helping him have a closer relationship with his son, in fact it's probably making things worse!

Levi Johnston is a handsome but conceited, not too bright, big mouthed, lazy, vindictive, creep! He won't find a job and support his son. He thinks buying an occasional package of diapers is supporting his son. He is also no gentleman! He is the kind of man who kisses and tells! I'm glad that Bristol finally got her eyes open and saw him for what he really is and kicked him out before she married him. She can do better than him!

He just said this to get back at the Palins because Bristol kicked him out and limits and controls his visits with his son. That is the only reason he said this. It may or may not be true. Someone in the Palin family needs to tell him to keep his big mouth shut and tell him what he can and cannot say to reporters and get him under control if Sarah wants to have a career in politics! He also needs to use the time that he spends talking to reporters looking for a job!

Sure...this Levi is no rocket scientist, but when faced with the prospect of marrying into that disfunctional, vindictive family after seeing the TROOPERGATE episode up close, was smart enough to do what Palin herself did...HE BAILED OUT!

Sarah palin may not have been blessed with any real intellegence (or any real character for that matter) but she does posess a certain low animal cunning.

No one should be surprised that her flock of neocon airheads has managed to turn even her betrayal of her oath to the people of Alaska into an act of selfless virtue.

Its what they do...

He didn't bail out! He was kicked out because he refused to get a job and support his son! He thinks the world owes him a living! Bristol finally got tired of his laziness and saw him for what he really is and kicked him to the curb!

She also won't allow him to see the baby without supervision because for some reason unknown to us she doesn't trust him. She probably has good reason, too, but is keeping it private.

Therefore he's angry and vindictive and running off at the mouth just to get back at Bristol and the Palins!

Someone in the Palin family should tell him to shut his big mouth! If he doesn't Todd or Bristol's big brother Trac might shut it for him someday by sticking their fist in it!

Isn't Lev) what we would legally and technically call a statutory rapist of a 17 year old (don't get me started on the "morals" mom and dad instilled in Bristol though)???

zeroKnots..

The kind of anti-American speech you just posted doesn't make your proclaimed "enemy" (what you call a libiot...) look bad.

It only makes you look not only a hater of your fellow Americans, but also the very reason why your kind of thinking is sinking like a stone in the sea of change.

I'll guess you most likely hate me as well because I did vote for Barack Obama... but I'll still just work all the harder for economic, health and education reform on your behalf. No thanks required, it is the American way.

I thought I typed cbsnews.com but I must have mistakenly typed us.com. What is this cr*p - it certainly isn't journalism. This guy is not in contact with the family - how would he have any idea what her motives are. CBS is losing credibility as a news org

mwc...

Did you read the article we are posting under? He speaks of conversations that occurred when he was living in their home.
He doesn't speak of motives, he merely repeats what he recalls hearing.

Whether you think he was good or bad, right or wrong to make these comments is another issue. Comment on this, your opinion is as valid as anyone else, that is -- if you care to show your credibility by commenting on something relevant.

Its amazing how people attack this boy and hold him responsible for everything. When, how and why did he become the bad guy? How did Bristol become so virtuous and Levi become such a target of feeding frenzy?

Bristol isn't out cashing in by trashing her baby's father and grandmother and talking about conversations that were said in private.

That is why Levi is a punk.

Bristol might be screwed up too. But we don't know that because she hasn't inserted her cranium into her waste disposal unit, as Levi has.

"Bristol isn't out cashing in by trashing her baby's father and grandmother and talking about conversations that were said in private."

How's he cashing in? Remember, it wasn't him that made this whole thing public venue. Good ole Sarah has no qualms speaking her little mind.

Frankly, if she doesn't like all this speculation concerning her resignation, then she should have given a more forthright reason for quiting her position. Even saying personal reasons would have been more acceptable than her cryptic rambling and insinuations. A higher calling/purpose?
What? Is she becoming a nun?
by Mortarman29 July 10, 2009 10:27 PM EDT
Irish,

All of those questions are perfectly acceptable to ask. And everyone is free to speculate or react to her answers about her own decisions in any way they see fit. There is no problem with that.

But here is the difference. Levi is trying to cash in by talking about private family conversations (if he is telling the truth). It is neither his place nor his responsibility to reveal what those conversations entailed. It is no one outside the family's business.

It would be like Chelsey writing a book about how she found a moldy cigar on her dad's desk in the Oval Office..and how she found out what happened and she reveals in the book all of the discussions and fights between her father and mother.

That isnt appropriate for her to do. If an aide did it, that would be one thing. But they are her family.

So Sarah is Levi's family, because they are both that little boy's family. It is dishonorable to reveal things that were meant for the privacy of the family.

This boy is flat our wrong!

Mortarman29,
Okay, I will concede that he shouldn't necesarily be airing dirty laundry or his personal opinions. However, that said, the response from the other camp was also not "family" like.

I still stand by my original statement. The comments attacking him in regards to his relationship, irresponsible behavior as a father and many more, have been ruthless and unfounded. I initially believed that these boards were for conversation, exchange of ideas, philosophies and even learning some new perspectives. Now they are mostly a magnate for hateful, small minded people who can vent and say whatever comes to mind in the safety of anonymity. It disgusts me.

White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because "every family has challenges," even as black and Latino families with similar "challenges" are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.

White privilege is when you can call yourself a "***'' redneck," like Bristol Palin''s boyfriend does, and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you''ll "kick their ***'' ***," and talk about how you like to "shoot ***" for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug.

This can only happen in America...

In other cultures, when a young girl is pregnant, everybody in his and her family work hard to ensure he live up to his responsibility as the father of the child when the child is born.

In America, when a young girl is pregnant, everybody in her family works hard to decide if she should get an abortion, give the child for adoption or raise the child when the child is born. In America, the biological father does not exist in the picture.

That's because it's a foregone conclusion the biological father is an utter moron if he was so stupid he didn't wear a condom.

As Palin promotes her upcoming book and then moves on to a lucrative deal with Fox, she'll continue to maintain that Levi didn't know what he was talking about.

For Levi to say anything at all, wasn't in his best interest. But to lie would be even worse. Lying could be held against him in a battle over the kid. He just said things were going better with the Palins, so I don't think he would be stupid enough to lie. He may be stupid, but not that stupid.

Anyone who is even slightly realistic, knows that Sara Palin is trying to cash in on her notoriety. Generally, women always look for the bigger better deal without giving much thought about the implication or issues it may cause and there's no reason to believe this is anything different, so...
