Essence magazine Beauty Editor Pamela Edwards Christiani, who shared pointers on "The Early Show" Wednesday, said, "Summer is about being carefree and fun."
She recommended adding hair accessories first. You may not be able to do anything about heat-induced frizz, but you can make it less noticeable by adding an accessory with feathers, beads or any other eye-catching detail.
"Pop one on," she said, "(and) change a simple ponytail or hairstyle into instant summer glamour."
Summer is a time when women want to wear less makeup, Christiani said, and they can do this by using long-wearing formula makeup.
On the lips, she recommended going with color that has a high shimmer and gloss. She said just one area of color on the lips is great to add some pop to your look.
"It's all about the contrast," Christiani said.
On the eyes, Christiani suggests colors like turquoise and eggplant. You can use liner on the rim to create some impact and fun, she said.
"When using such bright color," she told CBS News, "(there's) no need to invest color on the rest of the face. (You draw) more attention if you leave the rest of the face neutral."
Another way to create a high impact with your beauty routine this summer, is to have your nails done with Minx flexible film appliqués in a metallic colors.
"They are incredible looking, they don't chip," she said "There's no drying time. It can last up to four weeks; you can still go get a pedicure with them on."
