Suspected Cyber Attack Hits S. Korea

(AP)  South Korea says the Web sites of major government agencies, banks and Internet sites were paralyzed due to a suspected cyber attack.

The state-run Korea Information Security Agency said that Web sites of the presidential Blue House, the Defense Ministry, the National Assembly, Shinhan Bank, Korea Exchange Bank and top Internet portal Naver have been down or had access problems starting late Tuesday.

Some of the sites remain unstable.

Agency spokeswoman Ahn Jeong-eun says the paralysis happened because of a deluge of computers trying to connect with the affected sites, overwhelming computer servers that handle the traffic.

It appears that these may all appear to be isolated attacks. But I believe that there is a inherent profile that these hackers are trying to establish with these individual countries and institutions.

If they can isolate key component parts, 1/2 of the battle is won. Instead of taking down regional networks affecting many entities, 'they' are isolating systems and establishing profiles. Once they have established certain patterns for countries and specific systems they will 'breed' viruses I believe.
