Jackson Memorial Vouchers Already on eBay

Coveted Tickets Listed for as Much as $2,000 But Window for Purchase is Small

(CBS/AP)  Minutes after 8,750 lucky people were notified of winning coveted tickets to Michael Jackson's memorial service, listings for vouchers for the pop star's service began popping up on site like eBay and Craigslist.

One eBay listing has a "Buy it Now" price of $20,000 though the prices listed vary greatly and most are below $1,000.

Several listings for vouchers posted on Craigslist have already been flagged for removal.

The online sale will be short-lived as voucher winners have each been given a password that was set to expire at 11:59 p.m. Sunday Pacific time. Voucher holders are then instructed to pick up their actual tickets at Dodger Stadium by 6:00 p.m. Monday.

When they pick up their tickets, a wristband will be placed on each person's wrist. Organizers will check IDs to make sure those picking up wristbands are the same people who originally applied online, said Staples Center spokesman Michael Roth.

Fans must have both the ticket and the wristband to enter Staples Center on Tuesday. Wristbands that have been ripped, taped or tampered with will be voided.

But winners were permitted to give anyone their second bracelet, so "theoretically, the second wrist band can be sold," Roth said.

The tickets will admit 11,000 people to the Staples Center plus 6,500 in the Nokia Theater overflow section next door. The streets around Staples Center will be closed to prevent those without tickets from trying to attend, police said Sunday.

At the Wilshire Grand Los Angeles hotel about a half mile from the Staples Center, more than 90 percent of the hotel's 1,000 rooms were booked for Monday and Tuesday night, up from about 60 percent last week.

Giving credit where credit is due - yes Michael Jackson was a great entertainer and possibly icon, But none the less he was also not without his faults. No one knows for sure wheather he molested those children or if he just made some bad judjement calls on how he handeled this. The drug abuse was evident as was his unhappiness with himself. Yes he did endure abuse as a child from his Father as did his other siblings. He was also instrumental in many endeavors to help those in need and the fact that his will states that some monies will go to charity is a good legacy to leave behind. No doubt he was eccentric in his behavior, but then so was Elvis as many others. There is no doubt that this will help to bring money into Los Angeles - since they will be paying for this, for them it is a monumental big money event. The family says that they are having a private service - so I'm not sure how this is playing into their requests???? But as long as the city will recoup their money from this it does not matter. I quess perhaps this is helping to take some peoples minds off of the terrible situation that this country is in otherwise by all the fan-fare. Legends and icons die everyday with little to no fan-fare to this magnitude. But all the same Rest in Peace Michael - you have served a generation well in many. many regards.

EBAY is much more than complacent in this farce. Nobody should be allowed to sell these tickets and the promoters intend it this way as ID is required which matches the registrants name in order to pick up the ticket.

EBAY should be ashamed and I for one am disgusted with them over this. They have no integrity and are nothing more than a *****'s marketplace with nothing but a desire for profit at any cost.

Besides, I cannot understand the public's fascination with Michael Jackson. The man was not right in the head at all.

If you have been paying any attention, you can see that EBay has been removing the listings for the MJ memorial tickets as fast as they can. I've been watching the listings shrink over the past couple of hours. There were 3 pages of listings, it is now down to one.

If you'd been beaten senseless numerous times by your father and so fearful of him when he simply walks into a room that you actually vomit, you wouldn't be right in the head, either. Until you walk in others' shoes, perhaps you shouldn't be so judgmental.

Oh geesus, I think his father did an excellent job in beating his kids look how they turned out, Obedient and behaving properly throughout life! well sort of properly. Dont blame the fatehr for these children misbehaviors, children always have run rampant thru lives of many people especially superstars.

These auctions are almost as sick as Jackson's father. I think everyone realizes the truth about this talented, tortured soul.

If there are no statutes of limitation on child abuse, then his father should be arrested and charged with child cruelty and as an accessory to Mike's death.

He served in the Air Force in World War II. Has 2 daughters. Was married for 70 1/2 years - that's right, seventy and one-half years. Forget this Jackson fruitcake and honor a decent man on his death - Karl Malden.
I never saw him in an indecent role, he never molested any pre-teen boys, and was just an honorable man.

Judge a society by the people it picks to admire and make it's heroes.

This is truly sad that anyone would buy or even moreso that anyone would 'sell' the right to attend a memorial for a deceased. For the sellers, shame on you. For the buyers, if you can't pay your rent next year because of the 'economy' but you purchased the 'right' to attend Michael Jackson's memorial, then shame on you and no pity.

Celebrities care nothing about their fans. Sure, they might set up a web-site so you can pay to join their fanfare and pay extra to get good seats, but they care nothing about you but the money you spend to buy their albums, attend their concerts and buy their T-Shirts. Its business, and you are the pawn.
