(CBS)  T-shirts have never been hotter.

And T-shirts are not just for lazy days or for the gym anymore, according to style expert Nicole Young. The ultimate wardrobe basic, she said on "The Early Show" Friday, has evolved into a sexy, sought-after essential.

From slouchy boyfriend tees to graphic statement-making styles, she told "Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez, T-shirts have definitely gone glam.

Rodriguez asked Young what are the the right undergarments to wear with T-shirts.

Young suggested a strapless bra and a convertible bra. A convertible bra, she said, permit you to move the straps according to your needs. Also, you want something that has a seamless silhouette, she said, adding you shouldn't wear a bra with frills. She said you should use the simplest, cleanest fabric that will provide a clean silhouette.

Young also gave ways to bring T-shirts to various social settings without looking too casual.

"It's all about what you pair the T-shirts on the bottom and accessorize with," she told CBS News. "The fabric is key, not too sheer in the day and not too thick in the night."

Young also shared four T-shirt trends on "The Early Show":

1. Eco-conscious casual
T-shirt trend: organic cotton racer back tank top

"This is an easy way to incorporate your "green" desires in a minimal, simple way. This look is stylish and chic without looking crunchy granola like."

-Eco-friendly skinny jeans
-Faux leather flats
-Bra: An adjustable strap convertible bra with a racer back option

2. Date night
T-shirt trend: Slouchy boyfriend

"This look takes the boyfriend trend which is so popular in clothing and takes it to your shirt. This is a sexy, sophisticated look which requires you to either go short or fitted clothing to balance out the proportions. It is forgiving, comfortable and versatile."

-Tailored sateen shorts
-Platform wedge sandals
-Layered necklaces
-Bra: Seamless lightly padded bra will add support without showing through

3. Office elegance
T-shirt trend: fitted v-neck

"This is where you can bring color and pop into your wardrobe. It is easy to look neat and polished which is what you want in an office environment. You need to look classic, but light."

-Sleek pencil skirt
-Peep-toe pumps
-Cropped blazer optional (for conservative office environments)
-Bra: A full coverage bra will offer a subdued silhouette in the work place

4. Party perfect
T-shirt trend: tissue thin/burn out style

"The most important thing in wearing a t-shirt at night is that we add an element of shine and details. The slinkier the shirt, this will look dressier. Colors like salmon and coral are fabulous for a nighttime party look."

-Satin mini skirt
-Beaded stilettos
-Oversized statement earrings
-Bra: A flesh-toned bra in a second skin fabric will be the least visible under a sheer top
