(CBS)  Michael Jackson's former British bodyguard says the star had a girlfriend in the months before he died, and recalled "confiscating" bags of prescription medicine from the singer out of fear that he might die.

Matt Fiddes, a 30-year-old martial arts expert from southwest England, laid full blame for Jackson's death on doctors who supplied him with prescription medicines, which many suspect lead to heart failure. Fiddes said the doctors had Jackson's "blood on their hands".

Fiddes was introduced to Jackson by magician Uri Geller about a decade ago, according to his interview with CBS News' partner network Sky News.

"I never witnessed him actually taking drugs but I knew they were there, and I confiscated packages, and Uri did too," said Fiddes. "Uri confiscated injection equipment from his room... Uri would scream at Michael, you know, intensely, to stop doing this but we were getting pushed out (by the doctors)."

"We went to great efforts to keep the doctors away. But as soon as we said anything and it got back to Michael, Michael would have a screaming fit that we were interfering with his private life, that he knew what he was doing," said Fiddes, adding that he believes the star was "in denial."

"As far as I'm concerned they have Michael's blood on their hands," he said of the doctors. "They know what they've done and there's people out there who could have helped, could have stepped in, but didn't do for financial reasons."

Fiddes said Jackson was not a "druggie," and did not use illicit narcotics like cocaine, but that he was addicted to pain killers.

Officials in California announced Wednesday that the federal Drug Enforcement Agency was joining the Los Angeles Police Department's investigation into Jackson's death. The DEA's role in the investigation could be to provide knowledge on rare substances, illegal pharmaceutical manufacturing, or "pill mills," and to investigate the doctors involved in the case.

Fiddes would not name Jackson's alleged secret girlfriend, but said she was "someone special" to the global pop star, and that they had known each other for some time.

"I'm not going to name who she is but I think the family were aware that there was someone special in his life who he loved and adored and had his ups and downs with.

"I don't know how long they've been a couple. I know she's been with him for some time in different capacities but... it's up to her if she wants it to come out or the family to speak about this very private information.''

Fiddes spoke fondly of Jackson as a friend, telling Sky, "I'd like to think that he considered me more of a friend than a bodyguard."

"He was such a gentle man. He was never built for superstardom as far as I'm concerned."

why are people still taking trouble to voicing their hatred against MJ. His name was tarnished, he fell into drug addiction and now he is dead.Isn't that satisfaction enough. There are so many people around harming the world. why not go after them? i bet you know nothing about them. As far as MJ is concerned, he was a tremendous artist. His art and his appeal knew no boundaries of age or nations. Sadly at the end of the day, he was just a human being forced to live an abnormal life, which couldn't have been healthy or happy. but what's worth remembering is his work.
i can't help but feel sorry for you, MJ haters. It must be such a discomfort to see all the love and support MJ still enjoys.

They won't be able to bury the poor basturd until everyone pulls their head out of his arse.

For Kriest's sake, he was a singer, who happened to be a P.O.S for a human being, not the Pope.

I can hardly believe all the morons here defending the pedofreak. We should thank all the doctors who helped him remove himself from the gene pool. At least now we know for certain that he isn't molesting children.

You know.... Ronald Reagan died, Princess Diana, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Albert Einstein..... I can go on and on.....
How many US Presidents have died before MJ came along ??? NONE OF THEIR CELEBRATIONS OF THEIR MEMORIES COMES CLOSE TO THE LEVEL OF MICHAEL JACKSONS ? He found some area of the human brain and used it to become SUPER FAMOUS......??? How, and what, did he do to accomplish this ?? Oh, did I mention he came from the stock of people who were of the last great slave trade !?!? And still, more popular than ANY of the US Presidents before him....... scientists will be studying this guy for a "long time to come" ..... !!!!

I have to ask-when will people learn that "striving to be famous", and thinking this will bring happiness, well-think again, happiness has only to do with -WHAT will make you happy? Usually-1. good family, 2. good people surrounding you-In this case, #2 is missing......hmmmm

I think we are all a bit weary of the MJ continuous coverage, yes?

But I am a bit worried about MJ's and other stars lack of eating, his Ornish like low-fat "vegan diet" hey-- he only weighed 112 pounds, and he even had a personal trainer!

I believe; if he had been a Paleo eater, or even an all-meat plus eggs dieter I doubt the pain from his injuries and sleeplessness would have bothered him then driven him to the Dugs like it did Keith Ledger. Don't do Versed at home! Just my 2 cents.

No Grains No Pains.

I usually don't send messages this way. But I have to say there are some really sick people in this world. I just wished everyone would stop fighting over him and give him the credit and respect that he deserves. (YES - HE DOES DESERVES IT) Go back and read some of these. They are sick. He's not the only person that has ever had plastic surgery, taken meds, or been accused of something.) So, for all you negative people out there writing these. Try putting the shoe on the other foot. What if you had the whole world pointing fingers at you all the time. How would you deal with it. He's had a lot to deal with over the years and from what I've seen (on t.v. etc...) it's tore him apart. He's gone now - so you can stop pointing fingers at him and let him rest. I think all of you that are talking bad about him....You should be ashamed of yourself. How do you think his family feels. If they are reading these massages. Better yet - what if it was someone in your family that someone was putting down? I don't guess it would bother you. (or maybe you are just to stupid to care.)

Respect and credit? Those titles are reserved for people who earn them by setting good examples such as honesty and integrity, role models for others to duplicate. Mj made his choices, the wrong choices ruined him, his fame and career.
by jankebenzone July 2, 2009 2:53 PM EDT
Somebody here posted they thought mj had talent, even moreso than Elvis.
While Elvis may not have been perfect, his voice was far better than mj's and he was not a pedophile.Elvis songs and memories live on, mj will be forgotten soon as another loser and failure.

Second case was DEFINTELY a con/bribe. First case... they were going to take pictures of his genitals and bring to court... it was going to be an embarassing circus. What do RICH people do... they say... how do I make this go away? And he paid to settle... but in the settlement the clauses state explicity that he denies the sexual contact with the boy.

If these folks wanted 'justice' why would they sign documents like that?... they took the money and split.

BTW:
Leonardo Da Vinci was an uber pedophile. How is he remembered? I guess it's different strokes for different folks. Here is some info on the real Da Vinci:

"In 1476, he was accused anonymously, along with three other men, of sodomy with a 17 year-old model, Jacopo Saltarelli, who was a notorious male prostitute. After two months in jail, he was acquitted because no witnesses stepped forward. For some time afterwards, Leonardo and the others were kept under observation by Florence's Officers of the Night - a kind of Renaissance vice squad, charged with suppressing the practice of sodomy, which a majority of male Florentines engaged in, as shown by surviving legal records of the Podest? and the Officers of the Night.

Modern critics contend that Leonardo's love of boys was well-known even in the sixteenth century. Rocke reports that in a fictional dialogue on l'amore masculino (male love) written by the contemporary art critic and theorist Gian Paolo Lomazzo, Leonardo appears as one of the protagonists and declares, "Know that male love is exclusively the product of virtue which, joining men together with the diverse affections of friendship, makes it so that from a tender age they would enter into the manly one as more stalwart friends." In the dialogue, the interlocutor inquires of Leonardo about his relations with his assistant, Salai, "Did you play the game from behind which the Florentines love so much?"

Leonardo kept his private life particularly secret, and there is no evidence that Leonardo was ever intimately involved with any woman, nor in a close friendship with one. He also surrounded himself with handsome young men throughout his life, and his art reflects an appreciation of androgynous beauty."

If I am not mistaken Elvis married 14 year old girl. What do you call that? But no one speaks of that. Let Mike RIP. He was the greatest entertainer ever.

If you are really so sure he was guilty of molesting young boys, you really owe it to yourself to read the story published in 1994 at:

Perhaps it will open your eyes to what was really going on.

Drug addicts like Michael Jackson, the type with lots of money, just go to a lot of different doctors and get the perscriptions. It's not like the doctors all talk to each other. Give me a break. Michael was no different then any other addict - well, other than the fact that he could afford to go to 10 or 20 doctors at a time to get his drugs.

...but I remember he was addicted the adoration from the audience.

As are most celebrities. If you ask a celebrity what they like best about the business, it's performing in front of the audience. They LOVE it. I heard one celebrity say once that they were all very "insecure" people. They lived for the applause.

ok-- the guy is a FORMER bodyguard, introduced to jackson 10 years ago. my questions are; how long ago did he work for jackson? how long has it been since he has been in contact with jackson? most importantly, why does he feel compelled to introduce a secret girlfriend into the story?

oh, right. he gets his 15 minutes of fame...

seriously, did cbs vet this guy at all?

I grew up with Michaels music and will definitely miss him. I would have never believed he was addicted to prescription drugs. I remember years back hearing this, but thought he had stopped. I cannot believe everything I am hearing. Seems like so many people knew, and no one took the effort to try to help/save him. My heart dropped when I heard he had died. Music will never be the same. RIP Michael. You are in a much better place where no one can ever harm, use or hurt you again.

There are a lot of Quacks out there. Doctors are corrupt just as are lawyers, police officials, teachers... Just because you are a "DR" doesn't mean you are a good person. What goes around will come around. I'm sure they don't sleep good at night.

I did leave a very long comment about doctors whose main objective is to write narcotic prescriptions for paying clients. It disappeared. Somebody graduates at the bottom of the class. Ask any person who has worked for one of these doctors until they got fed up, or fired for not keeping our mouth's shut. You have your frequent flyers at many offices, and your "have pen will travel" doctors. They forget the Hippocratic Oath-First do no harm. These people are the reason a real patient cannot get pain medication for a real condition. The MD has already met his/her quota-on these people. Let's see this comment disappear too.

Bury the guy, in the ground or scatter his ashes over the Pacific ocean. All the creeps making money off this guy or any person dying deserve a special place in hell..If these people liked Jackson so much, why didn't they do something about him going off the deep end of life by using drugs, plastic surgery, obnixious spending habits, adopting 3 kids and lead them to a life of abnormal behavior? All the enablers should be arrested for contributing to the loss of a life, for distributing drugs and for endangering children's lives. This is my last post on this subject and on Michal Jackson. This should be the last post from the News companies on Jackson also. There are other more pressing issues in our country. Enough is enough..Goodbye

I guess pain killers aren't drugs to this twit. He thinks they're candy, I suppose.

It's very sad that doctor's that may have had the power to control Michael decided that he was ok. But MJ had his own power and if he wanted something he got it, so i don't think anyone could have saved him, he was out of control, Just like Elvis, Emiminm, Japlan, the Gun's and Rose's guy (sorry i don't remember his name) and the few others who we have lost to drugs. Imagine if we could have them all back...Wow! All i can say is ... If you are one of the one's that could have prevented his death than "Shame on you!"
