Pass the popcorn - here are this year's hottest summer movie releases.

(CBS)  Ray Romano is getting animated.

In his new film, Romano, known for playing the nice guy in the hit sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," will lend his voice to the 3-D film "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs."

Romano stopped by The Early Show Monday to discuss his new film with Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith.

Romano said despite what many people think, he really does change his voice to play the woolly mammoth character Manny. "I can hear it in my head," he said. "People don't hear it, but as an actor, you put a voice on."

Smith remarked that Romano's comedic timing is always on. But doing three movies, Smith said, isn't always the charm. He asked Romano how he decided to keep going with the "Ice Age" franchise.

Romano agreed that doing three movies isn't always the best idea, but the script drew him to keep going. "The story evolved, the characters evolved. They found a new angle," he said. "...They moved the story along. It doesn't feel like we're milking it."

Romano added they've also added a new character, played by Simon Pegg, who steals the show, according to Romano.

Romano joked, "It kind of annoys me a little, but I get more money than him so that's okay."

Romano is joined by stars, such as Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, and John Leguizamo.

"Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" opens in theaters on July 1.
